I'm using a Synology DS1520+ and had added the downloaded the server software... When I go through the setup, I try to add the folder on my server however come into two issues. 1st - even though it is the DS1520+ - it shows up as another server. ( I was previously using a different server) -- but shows a different name for the current local server. I've included a screenshot...
I can see the top level folders like "music" but can't see any of the files or sub folders underneath the top folder. This includes both music and any others... and get an error message that says "Error Loading Folder: Unauthorized"
I've tried to go back through all of the permissions and Roon has either read or read/write permission for all of them. Not sure what to do...
Describe your network setup
Using Synology DS1520+ Running 7.2.1-69057. I have 4 x 18TB drives in a Synology Raid array with 23TB used and 24TB free.
To connect to the drive - Dell XPS15 with i9 processor.
Please make sure you run the latest package from here: Synology DSM7 – RoonOnNAS
Maybe also watch the install video there. If you uninstall the current version of the package and then install the newest one (may both be the same version), the installer script should run again and ask you where the music is and fix the access rights for that location. The installer also shows you a message how to give Roon rights to access other/additional folders if you need that. Make a screenshot from these instruction for future reference.
You can find instructions to fix the Model Name displayed in the thread below:
I had tried it but just for sh*ts and Giggles - I uninstalled the Roon package on the server, downloaded it again (it was the same version) and then reinstalled and still get the same issue.
Thanks for the info to change the name - I’ll go through that one too…
The installer script (wizard or what ever someone might call it) has run? What did you enter there?
What about the instruction to set access rights (did you see them/did you check)?
PS: While you posted in support (for Roon), this is not a Roon issue. It is about the app for NAS and the NAS itself. Official Roon support is out of office until Tuesday and even after their return may not able to help you resolve your external issue. “Error Loading Folder: Unauthorized” is not fixable from inside Roon – you have to provide the needed access rights to Roon Server running on the NAS.
Just checking…does the “RoonServer” user have at least read permissions (it does not need read/write) to all content in your music folder?
Also, have you double checked permissions access of the connecting account that is using your username and password from another machine using the SMB protocol? That’s actually more important.
Oddly enough - When I connected to the Music Folder through the mapped drive on my laptop - it worked and has been loading all of the music files into Roon. I would like to figure out what i need to do to get it to work on the server
@BlackJack is correct in the statement above, this does appear to be a permissions issue. We’re seeing a few different instances of Roon Server being active across multiple machines, could you please reproduce the issue on the primary machine you plan to use as your server, and then use the directions found here and send over a set of Roon Server logs to our File Uploader?
Logs may provide an additional layer of information to help you pin down where the issue lies. We’ll be monitoring for your reply!
