EverSolo DMP-A6

Then its a Tidal issue, bad metadata, I would flag it to them.

oug - how’s that possible?

Reboot the Eversolo

Thanks!
Rebooting fixed it, but out of curiosity WTH caused this?

Most likely it is the Eversolo, there have been some known glitches with it.

If it is from A6, then this is the first glitch since I bought it

I have not had any that I can remember either, but people have been complaining about strangeness on other Eversolo forums. Reboot always fixes the issue.

Aha - I think I found the ‘bug’:
I tried streaming from Roon to the A6 via Airplay to see if that worked.
That’s when AAC first appeared

If you are installing the apk, then you are running the same software as you would on any android phone or tablet. No difference except form factor.

Hi, Rugby, thanks for you answer here.
My I ask as a newby in Roon and Eversolo:
I equiped my new Eversolo with a 2 TB SSD. And copied my music files on the ssd. Should I better take the ssd out of the eversolo and attach it into the Ronn Nucleus jus for the sake of better network traffic?
My Nucleus found the eversolo as an endpoint but did not “see” the attached SSD with the music.
Thanks for your answer!
Joe

Its the form factor I am interested in. I even thought about building something like this based on Android. Here’s one last question. Would I still need the apk if a multichannel external DAC is directly connected via USB and would this connection be supported with multichannel support? Thanks!

Yes it’s better in the nucleus but you can’t fit more than one m.2 drive the 2nd drive needs to be SATA I believe but happy to be corrected if not.

It would be better on the Nucleus. This device is usually powered on at all times. If you were to use the M.2 on the Eversolo for your library, then that would translate into 2 devices powered on at all times.

Having a Nucleus (Music Server) setup with a music library is ideal for expanding endpoints throughout your household.

However for the many different ways to setup what is key is a backup of your database and your library. With the M.2 on the Eversolo, this would be a ideal placement for your backups.

Also with Roon 2.0, when the internet goes down (Roon is down) you would have a simple and instant way to listen to your library via the Eversolo with the onboard backup library source.

Does the DMP work as a Plex target for playback?

You notice that also. This is the first time I also saw any reference to Plex.

I have a Plex Pass but I have not tried to tie it in to the Eversolo, yet.

I lifted this from their forum:

Conclusion & positioning:
This is a sophisticated and outstanding Music Streamer coming pre-loaded with many popular streaming services. It supports both access via API’s or APP’s where made available via the providers. What is further unique is that it combines these services where possible with integration to external library services like Roon, Plex etc. Eversolo for sure tries to get the best out of every possible combination and it looks to me that there are surprising few problems with all this.

If its a Chromecast enabled device then Plex would work with that but not Gapless if its not seen as a PlexAmp endpoint like Lumin is. Be interested to know.

While it does have a casting feature built into DMP-A6 app, It seems that if you have Plex Amp setup to access content from the outside coming in that you can access your content on the DMP-A6. Having said, wonder if you could from the Plex Amp app, play to the DMP-A6. Like you said thru casting. I have never played with Plex Amp so I am reaching here with regard to what Plex Amp would be capable of doing. Why would a APK be needed if you are able to cast? Any ideas?

Another lift from the same page:

Music streaming services
This excellent sounding streamer includes many unique and advanced functions above all in the area of streaming API services, streaming APP’s and external Music Database services.
Many are bundled and can be installed by just clicking on the matching Icon under APP’s.
Others APK’s often can be sideloaded additionally:

  • To sideload an app, download the APK, then type your DMP-A6 IP address in your browser using port 18888 i.e. 192.168.x.x:18888
  • Copy the APK to any folder and use “Cast Mode” File browser to install it manually by just clicking on it.
The list of supported/bundled services is still growing and kept updated on this forum by myself. Unique is that this streamer not only does 2CH via the DAC but also 2CH/MCH via HDMI in combination with some of these services. Roon MCH support as implemented is fairly unique but proven to work.

It is essential to understand that there are 2 different ways streaming services can be implemented:

  1. Tidal, Qobuz, Highresaudio, Amazon, Internet Radio work via a Native API (Application Program Interface) hence these will be using the DMP-A6 GUI and player for control similar to local content.
  2. Apple Music, KKbox, Deezer, Spotify and Napster in contrary are full third-party applications. Using that method can make the content richer but can only be controlled in the Eversolo Controller APP screen cast mode (or using the Front Panel directly). Here also comes the EOS (Eversolo Original Sampling-rate) engine into play. EOS intercepts the default Android I/O interface to enable HiFi sound with APP’s offering these. It must explicitly be enabled in setup to operate (disable it when an APP gives problems producing sound).
Mostly judged on the information and comments found on this forum, I only can conclude that this part is well supported. Only very few mostly small issues remain for some very specific setups.
The total number of possibilities and choices of use is really impressive and already earned its place in this market section. You may call it a hot product.

Client/server database services
Integration with Client/Server based external DataBase services which use a Client App on the player connecting via the Internet to a remote matching server. Both streaming and local sources can be managed using various external services like Roon, Emby, Jellyfin, Plex, Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect, etc. Some support multiple sources but others won’t. Streaming providers may also offer a database service which can be a bit confusing at first.

These database services offer proven advanced and reliable library services accessible by multiple players being stationary or mobile. As long the player is a supported/certified platform it should integrate seamless regardless the brand or model. In most cases these service aren’t exactly for free (e.g. Roon) but still quite popular seen the many posts and questions about them on this forum.
