Fan Spinning and Case Warm on New ROCK NUC12WSHi7 - Need Advice (ref#GWEML1)

15.40 BST 11/4/2024 - Max fan event after playing one track for approximately 23 seconds

@daniel is there any progress on this?

23:10 BST 12/4/2024 Roon should be idle - no clients open - full speed fan for 30+ seconds

@MrDenis we have a ticket in with the team and we are still looking into it.

Thanks for the update Daniel. I’m away at present and my NUC is powered down so as not to disturb a guest who is staying in that room while I’m away.
Hopefully, the latest update might improve things, I’ll find out once I’ve returned next week.

Okay, our team activated some advanced diagnostics for your account. To turn them on please restart your server twice once you get back.

Hi @daniel - so I’ve powered up, taken the latest update - and done a couple of restarts - is that all I need to do?

Yes, the advanced diagnostics have been enabled.

@MrDenis I’ve consulted with the rest of the team and what’s happening is that there are some albums attributed to various artists in your library. The analyzer is having trouble identifying these tracks. Because of this Roon is also creating new album objects for each subfolder in various artists. We also noticed there is a lot of scanning happening in your Roon library, you can turn off background and on-demand audio analysis in Roon Settings → Library to prevent additional background activity from occurring.

As a longer-term fix you can change up your file structure. This is discussed here Is ROON able to run a library of 1,000,000 tracks? - #5.
We are currently investigating other reports of this here Build 1392 through 1401: Album Covers Missing, Orphaned Tracks from Compilation Albums [Roon Investigating]. Any updates will be posted there.

Hi Daniel,

Thanks for the response and I take all that on board.
I suppose the big question is why does Roon OS cause this behaviour on a 12th Gen i7 Intel NUC when it didn’t on a 7th Gen i5 Intel NUC?

Honestly, I don’t know why this would be the case. Most likely it’s some combination of changes with updates and the file structure I mentioned above. We’ll know more after we finish investigating.

So I’ve gone into my NUCs bios and disabled Turbo - that seems to have quietened things down for the moment

I’ll have to wait and see if it has any effect on performance - I did lose connection with my hard-wired KEF LSX which is my next support question for another day

Maybe Roon OS could feature some power/ energy options?

So a problem that I thought was resolved by upgrading to a 12th Gen i7 has returned after turning off turbo to reduce fan noise.

This tends to only happen when streaming to my Kef LSX (wired, on same switch) after I scrub through a track or skip a few tracks or change albums quickly. Sometimes resolved by playing a track from another album but usually I need to use Spotify to play something on the Kefs after which point Roon will reconnect.

Please try to reproduce the KEF disconnecting then let us know the date, time, and track playing when it happens so we can find it in the logs.
Also you could investigate whether a firmware update is needed. Are there any pending updates for your device?

The pic above has all those details - do you need again?

All firmware up to date

There’s no need to post again since the image has an accurate timestamp. I believe I’ve found one of the dropouts in your logs. I will bring this to the rest of the team and get back to you when I know more.
