I’m not a huge playlist kinda’ guy, but i do dig the 2-way sync!
great job!
But, if would want to use/see my playlists in the top menu, i’d expect them to be organised into the folders i’ve created, isn’t that the whole purpose of folders?
As mentioned, perhaps with a fold/unfold maneouvre…
Now i’m eager to see the folder-style management of Bookmarks next!
It may be linked, but I just created a Qobuz playlist from a Tidal playlist and the new playlist is public, when you create a new playlist in Qobuz native app they are default private.
I prefer private playlists, I think the choice should be there.
This is the only negative for me, although it’s very easy to just edit the privacy manually and a lot quicker than manually creating the playlist from scratch, so the added functionality is appreciated.
Overall I think it’s a good update and I like the UI changes.
In tidal I have folder for playlist.
In Roon, I don’t see my tidal folder with stored playlist into that folder.
I can’t add a folder and move tidal playlist into that folder, only local playlist.
I’m excited by the two-way sync feature, although I’m still not certain it solves some of my hopes because it essentially means I’m streaming my whole library now even when I have a local copy. It’s like I now need two copies of each playlist (a local preferred one and a streaming preferred one) which sounds like it’ll be fiddly to manage.
As far as the menu changes go, I don’t think it’s enough to simply expand/collapse the list because if you have more than 10 or so then it becomes a tedious scrolling problem (that’s not sorted consistently). In the interim I far prefer the single button we get when the playlist menu is off, but the suggestions above of being able to pin specific playlists (based on profile) would be the best solution imho. That way you can see exactly what you want to (top 5, top 10 whatever) and none of the less frequently used items that you can click on Playlists to access.
As far as now being able to see other people’s playlists, I see this as a bit of a problem, I really don’t want my young kids seeing or listening to some of my playlists that have a bunch of bad language in them. (It’s also very illogical that it’s called “My Library” and then has someone else’s playlists in it. I don’t see their favourited albums, why should I see their playlists?
Here’s another request from a person who uses playlists differently. All of my playlists are imported playlists that are in the music folders of my NAS. This UI is a little disingenuous:
Sure, I can see my playlists on the left if I have it so configured. And I can click on that “Imported” folder to see my playlists like I used to forever in previous versions of Roon. But Roon should not be telling me the there are “No playlists here yet!”
Also, I would prefer there not to be an automatically-created folder for these imported playlists. I see that I can create a bookmark that always takes me to the following if I would like:
Yes, 100% this right here. I love having the option to see them but, for the most part I use Roon and Tidal separately. The option to hide my Tidal playlists would be awesome.
The video is great, thanks so much for doing this. I do like the additional playlist functionality as well. As others have indicated it is a bit much to see all those playlists displayed on the left side, but roon did provide a fix for that via the settings menu (as indicated in the video, and as pointed out by many who have posted on this thread). My suggestion would have been to make the default to NOT show all those playlists on the left bar (i.e., “opt-in” as opposed to “opt-out” of the change). I do like the concept as well to pin playlists.
I did also see that there was a bug. But as I typed this I saw a roon update appear, and the update appears to have addressed it. In short, I tried numerous times without success to move playlists from one area to another, despite roon indicating that the move was successful. I think this issue was also encountered by another person who pointed out issues in moving Qobuz playlists. I did eventually figure out as well, that to first ‘select’ a playlist to be moved, I had to hold the mouse button down for a bit on a playlist in order to register this as a ‘select’ operation as opposed to just opening up the playlist. That may not have been obvious to others as well. In any case, the ‘move’ issue does appear to be addressed now. I am keeping the above comment (as opposed to deleting) in case others encountered this and are still on the old roon version.
