I was going to say no to question 1, but I was wrong. I haven’t actually used it yet, but I have used auto sleep and it cannot be started by Roon after that without pressing the power button.
Hej Michael.
I have updated the DR70, with succes, and everything is back to normal, and Airplay work well.
I think I have a feeling, that the soundstage have changed a bit. I have a feelng, that its more precise and transparent. I think it sound really good now.
What is your experience? Regards Jesper
Glad to hear that it has worked out well for you after the update
I tend to agree with you about a slight change in soundstage, though I am noticing it a bit more using HQPlayer than with Roon streaming on this device.
You can set it to DSP volume control in the Roon Audio device settings and it does work, but it only reduces it from the maximum that the device volume is set to.
I use it with a RooNuimo volume control and generally keep it set at 100% for my preferred choice and turn it down from there. If I want to get higher volume than that I use the DAC remote control to turn it up
Yes it’s part of the RooExtend software pack that you will find here in their own thread’s.
You cannot buy the Nuimo remote anymore but there are other devices
Have a look at this thread as the Good Dr produces some nice extensions to run on a Pi or a dedicated device that he makes. Personally I still like the look and feel of the Nuimo remote more than anything else I have seen
Bad luck again. The Airplay lasted for two sessions, and are now crashed again, and are now not working at all. Im a little puzzled, that they can crash and then broke so much that they can’t work anymore.
I have written to Gustard again….
Not that I use Airplay at all, but have you tried switching between Airplay 1 and 2?
It sort of feels like you need a Dac and Streamer, as for me this only feels like a good streamer if you are only using Roon or UPNP, both of which I use. Not good for you I know, if it is advertised for Airplay and Spotify then it should at least work reliably.
Funnily enough I brought my WIIM Pro Plus down and plugged it into one of the Coaxial ports last night. Working really nice (at least in Coaxial 2, but won’t lock on Coaxial 1) and I have been trying other services there.
Have you had any issues with sync lock on Coaxial 1 or even tried using it
Hi Ged Very interesting after all this time to still get a decent amount for the Mini-i Pro 3, I have kept my Matrix as a dedicated living Room RR headphone amplifier, even though I rarely listen to headphones.
I really do like this DAC and Streamer, and 99% of what I listen to is either via Roon, HQPlayer or UPNP so it really does cover my uses very well. Having read a lot of articles about the DR70 and LPSU, OP Amp rolling etc, the only thing I have changed is taking the iFi PSU from my Zen Stream and plugged that into the DR70 (as I already had it) which made a small but pleasant improvement to my listening. I went back and tried it with the internal PSU again, but within half an hour I was back on the iFi PSU. If I had not heard it with the external PSU though I would have been completely happy with the sound.
There will probably be one or two firmware updates to install from this link http://dr70.local/celware-info.html for me the latest update is 1.21 build 229
If using it with Roon, my best listening experience was NOS mode, with Roon (or HQP) upsampling to PCM Max Rate (x2), and DSD with HQP. Also I have tried the different options with Sound Mode on the DR70 and with Roon and HQP upsampling I prefer the Sound Mode to be set to Directly
Hopefully this information helps and you enjoy your purchase
Thanks, that’s a lot of useful real world experience.
It was triggered by listening to the same track via my rega turntable and the matrix. Deeper more cohesive bass from the turntable, so I thought time for a change.
That’s also my experience with listening to vinyl, and comparing a good digital with a good vinyl sound. It seems to be one of the things that vinyl excells at.
BTW there seems to be a thought that the RCA is slightly better than XLR on the DR70, though I am still using XLR at this point. I tried both and didn’t notice any real differences besides the XLR is slightly louder as expected.
