I am facing an annoying “feature” that pauses playback to a remote device after disconnecting my Bluetooth headset from my system.

On macOS, Roon registers with the system media controls so that the play, pause and track keys work. When your Bluetooth headset disconnects, macOS sends a pause command through that same interface, and it arrives at Roon looking exactly like you pressed the pause key on the keyboard. Roon cannot tell the two apart, so it pauses whatever the client is controlling, which in your case is the RPi zone rather than the Mac.
There is no setting to make Roon ignore those commands, so there is nothing we can give you to switch off.

What feature are you requesting? The readersvould not have to read other threads to determine what issue you are seeking to resolve.
That said, if the device playing disconnects, the logical outcome is to pause playback.
I was under the assumption that the entire post would be displayed.
For what I am requesting, I thought that the title would be enough to explain it, just make a difference between a user keypress or system keypress. I have change the title a bit. What am I missing here?
The issue is that Roon playback to a remote deivce (RPi) stops playback when I disconnect my local connected headset (bluetooth) when I have Roon desktop active and the RPI selected in the view. This has to do with the fact that Roon is unable to distinguish an intentional key press from a system-generated one.
It would be really nice is that could be fixed.
And yes, if I disconnect the device playing back music it will stop playing back music, but that is not the case. My bluetooth headset was not playing back music at all, in my Roon Desktop app the remote RPi was selected and actively playing music. So disconnecting a local device makes my remote device stop playing back which is more or less not expected behaviour
