Hi there,
I am interesting in learning if the Hegel HD30 DAC is Roon Ready or Roon Tested?
Will my NUC pick it up either via Ethernet or USB?
Hi there,

It looks like the HD30 is not on the Roon Partners list with Hegel at all.
Scroll down to Hegel.
Does that mean that my NUC won’t pick up a USB connection from my NUC in Roon? I have a DAC in my system right now that is not a roon tested or roon ready device and my NUC picks up the USB connection from my NUC and creates an end point? Wouldn’t the HD30 be similar?
It probably will work with a USB connection.
Just not thru the HD30’s ethernet port and streaming piece since Roon won’t know it is there.
Well, there is a way to play music over ethernet. I did this with my Hegel H390 before this was Roon Ready. But my Roon Server resides on a Sonicorbiter machine on which the SonoreUPnP Bridge is installed. This bridge appears in Roon as a Squeezebox player. I do not know of any possibilities like this for your situation.
Your H390 is Roon Ready, that’s why it works over your network. It listed on the Roon partner page as Roon Ready. Your H30 is not listed on the Roon partner page at all. It my be in the process of being evaluated by Roon, Until the H30 is listed on the Roon partner page as Roon Ready it is unlikely to connect over the network.
The Hegel website lists your H390 as Roon Ready, that is why it worked over your network. But the Hegel web site doesn’t mention anything about Roon Ready or Roon tested for the H30.
Check the Roon partner page at
Check with Hegal and see if they can tell you if they are getting the H30 evaluated by Roon.
You can also hook up your H30 with a USB cable and see if it work, it might.
What I wrote was: I did this before it was Roon Ready.
I understand that the HD30 won’t be picked up by the Ethernet via Roon. I have had many DACs not partners with Roon that still worked via USB as Roon picks up the USB driver. I assume the same will happen with the HD30 but am not sure based on earlier threads.
Just want to make sure before I get the DAC. Thanks for all the help.
Geoff
It should likely work just fine.
Just that Roon will not identify it as Hegel more than likely and be just a generic symbol for it on audio zone.
I heard back from Hegel. The soft are for the DAC was developed before Roon and therefore will only work properly thru a computer which is not what I want. It may work thru USB but not worth the risk. No matter how much I want the DAC.
There is an old thread about someone using the HD30, but it seems to be impossible to play DSD files.
Like I said above, their hardware in the DAC was developed before Roon and cannot be changed. Although, I could probably get the DAC to work via USB through my NUC, I am not using my system to its most efficient and therefore will not buy the DAC. The DAC I have is fantastic and also Roon Ready. I have been using a Musician Taurus which is also not Roon Tested, Certified or Roon Ready as I prepare to review it. It is a tremendous R2R DAC and was making me itchy for something different. As much as I love the Taurus (and it works via USB into my NUC) I do not get to use my system at its most efficient and I need to get a next DAC that is also Roon Ready. Any recommendations?
