Hegel Roon Ready status statement

It has good looks Chris, nice!

Beautiful.

Also, I think it’s fitting that this thread has ended up here with an amp from another company. I’ll be likely to follow suit as many others will I suspect. Godspeed.

Sadly, I have now moved on from Hegel as well.

Great amp, lousy Roon implementation and corporate communication.

What did you go with?
I’m looking at the Boulder 866 or Luxman 590.

I narrowed it down to 3:

  • Modwright KWH 225i
  • Luxman 590
  • Luxman 507uxii

I ultimately went with the Modwright as I thought it would be the best match for my DAC/Streamer, which is a Weiss DAC 501.

I should have the Modwright in about 2 weeks.

Yes, that sums it up quite nicely.

Last ā€œformalā€ communication from Hegel on the issue was Juli 6.
It is about time that Hegel takes it’s Roon using customers seriously and issue a formal statement on how they are going to handle the ā€œhot :potato:ā€.

Sadly, I really don’t think Hegel has the software development bandwidth nor the maturity of management to really do any of this. They seem to be a great hardware company stuck in the 20th century… just can’t get the software to work and don’t realize how communication to customers about it could ultimately be their downfall. It’s hard to watch tbh. I think we all just need to move on. So many great options out there now that sound even better from companies that also understand software.

This whole saga is very strange indeed.
I don’t own any Hegel products and have no intention of changing that.
I did, however, hope that Hegel would fix this sorry state of affairs for those that do own and enjoy their Hegel amps.

The communication from Hegel on this has been nothing short of shocking and I’m delighted to see people move away from the brand. To be frank I think Hegel deserve to have customers walk away from them after this.

Lots of great gear out there from companies who provide quality hardware, software and customer care.

It would be nice if @Anders_Ertzeid would give some updates now and then. And inform his costumers about any compensation, after waiting for more than two years. I have lost all confidence in this company.

Every few months, a 9 is added to that number.

I understand most of the energy has been going into their rebranding, and a name change to Asymptote Audio.

And now a round up for applause

Such as? Just asking, not disputing the statement.
I believe that the quality of the power amps is what drives Hegel purchases(?), so what else is of similar quality that is already Roon Ready (and of course no more expensive)?

Is it Hegels fault, or the extremely stringent certification requirements?? Roon Ready can be added to anything with a USB port for $50, though I get the complaints.

You can add a Pi to run Roon Bridge, but that does not make it Roon Ready.

It would be great… just great… if they would inform their costumers from time to time. Where are we? Where are we going?
It would be even better if they took the initiative themselves to do so.

I could not agree more!

They don’t care man. Honestly. We all have to move on.
