Homepod Mini and volume control?

Have you ever used Homepod Mini with Roon? I am trying to, I have two separate Minis, and they connect and blast away at full volume right away. I just cannot adjust volume within Roon. Is it supposed to work at all?

Yes, it should work as a normal endpoint with volume control managed from within Roon. Have you restarted both the Mini and your Roon Server and see if that corrects the issue? Does you Mini’s volume work normally from a MacOS or iOS device?

I use mine. But, I’ve always set Roon at 100% volume and let the devices control the sound.

It does work fine on my iPhone, for example Youtube Music app. But as soon as I am starting from Roon, it starts playing 100% volume. As soon as I try turning it down in the app, nothing happens. If I try to phsyically turn it down on the Homepod Mini, it just immediatly turns it up again to max. It is a very weird behaviour.

Roon Server is running on a Mac Mini. May the Mac be the culprit in some way?

Just got HomePod mini and having this issue. Anyway to get it sorted out? Thanks

@support

Would it be possible to get some kind of an answer from Roon support? I got few more HomePods (bigger and minis) and basically it’s quite impossible to use them with Roon. The volume level is always at full and can’t be changed.

On this attached photo from Roon site it seems to me that there is even a HomePod pictured…

Hi @Jim_Rasch

I’m a Roon user like you with HomePods.

I have moved this into the support category so it’s visible to @support

Just wondering if you’re using an iPhone or iPad as the remote device for Roon. If so, what version of iOS is it/are they on?

This was a problem a couple of years ago, whereby using an iPhone/iPad as remote the volume jumped to 100% (Some Android users reported similar).

I was affected then as well. It has been ok for me for a good while now.

Are you using them as a singular Roon endpoint or in a stereo pair.

Have you tried the compatibility mode within the Roon settings > Audio tab > HomePods under airplay?

Thanks Menzies for your input in this!

In my case I have a M2 Mac Mini as a core, Macbook Air 15 and iPhone 15 Pro max as remotes. Everything is up to date when it comes to software version. I have tried compatibility mode. All my Homepods are used as singular endpoints.

Thanks!

@moderators Maybe this thread should be merged into the parallel one where Roon was investigating, and this one re-opened

It seems to me that there won’t be an input from support. So it leaves no other solutions but switching to Apple Music.

I got one HomePod mini that I use on my setup and I don’t have these issues. The only difference I can see is you run it on a Mac and I don’t.

Maybe it is the Mac as a core, hopefully this issue will get fixed some day.

It’s not like Roon will be losing a customer, since I have a lifetime subscription. I have now subscripted Apple Music though.

In case someone is interested: I moved my core to a Windows laptop and the volume control on HomePods works now.

It would be great if this issue with Mac as a core was fixed.
