This reminds me of the time when I subscribed to two car magazines because I thought it would get me closer to the truth. 
But, well, indeed, there are certain differences between Tidal and Qobuzā¦
Apple Music you canāt even use the hires without an iPhone/iPad hard wired into a dac so no and via Airplay 2 itās only AAC. Spotify lossless seems to be Vapurware and Qobuz connect doesnāt exist and its Chromecast support sucks. I donāt think the Ā£20 is that expensive now they are moving away from MQA. The connect app is a big plus.
FWIW, Tidal offers a military/first responder discount (for US) Tidal Pricing Iām paying $11.99/month (HiFi Plus) for being a vet. Iām happy with the streaming service. I use it with Roon and Android Auto.
Tidal has local pricing also. Itās cheaper in other countries. (But content is different also depending on your location)
Still 20 bucks a month for basically unlimited music seems fair enough. Thatās the price of a pizza and a coke around here or 2 cheap cds
After much gnawing and gnashing of teeth, Iāve decided to let Tidal lapse and not renew. Much of that is because of my return to physical media (CDs, SACDs, and Vinyl) after 16 years wandering around the formless streaming and computer based music world. For me, itās just more fun to have a music collection I can touch than all the music ever made residing in a more abstract space.
Iāll miss a few beloved Tidal playlists, but I really only listen to them a few times a year.
And as mentioned in the now closed companion thread on this topic, streaming leaves me with a queasy ethical conundrum.
And thus the march back to the 1990ās technology continues. Still have the lifetime Roon license, but these days only use Roon perhaps twice a month. Iām totally under the spell of putting a CD or SACD into the tray, or going through the hassle that is vinyl. Itās my music. I own it. And thereās a satisfaction to that which computer based music (including streaming) has failed to achieve.
In 10 years Iāll probably be deep into the Edison Cylinder revival
That is why I have left last week. Now with Qobuz which after a like for like test actually sounds warmer on my KEF LS50system
i actually think its a cartel between all providers and that they are all in cahoots!
i currently subscribe monthly to spotify (for the kids), qobuz and tidal (for me because lots of content is on one and not the other) and roon for the system.
if spotify did cd quality and roon supported it i could drop all the others.
if qobuzz didnt delete content from their library so often i wouldnt need tidal
if tidal didnt shove mqa and hip hop and music videos down my throat i wouldnt need qobuz
if qobuz didnt only provide remastered versions of so many great albums i wouldnt have to keep buying cds
for a complete experience a user should just need roon + 1 music subscription service but that would be too easy!
Interesting. I prefer Tidal among like services. Now they tell you whether or not itās a FLAC or an MQA. To each his own.

To me - it is quite pricey - butā¦HOOLLYY SSSMOKE !!! $19.99!!! That is all three combined for me and two of them are Family packages with 6 accounts each.

So Iām paying almost 50 Euro per month for them. Iām single so I donāt have to get family packages. Otherwise it would be even more expensive.
At least I donāt have to pay for Roon anymore now that Iāve went lifetime last year.
In France we pay 16,99 ā¬ for a Tidal Hifi family plan, which is more than enough for us as we donāt care much about hi-resā¦ We share that plan with my girlfriend: so that makes 8.5ā¬ each per month, to get that amount of music. Itās pretty reasonable imo.
A quick look online shows the average wage in SA as 1344USD a month which is just over Ā£1100, itās all relative. Few people could live in the UK on Ā£1100 a month, it would be substantially less than the minimum wage here.
So ā¬600 a year. I know someone who spends that a month on smokes. The annual cost of a main hobby Iām assuming, a bargain IMO.

It is Sep 29th already and my TIDAL HiFi Plus subscription through Best Buy is still active. I decided to not cancel it and wait to see what was going to happen and as of today, it is still active and showing up in muy Best Buy account with 05/2024 renewal date and in my TIDAL account as managed by Best Buy.
Iām not following. An extra 50c a month. My Tidal sub just went up by Ā£1 a month, itās still a bargain.
Me neither - why raise only the HiFi and not the plus ?

As Hifi Plus is already expensive enough compared to other services. If Apple Music and Qobuz (more or less) offer the same thing for nearly half the price.
Apple Music 11 Euro per month. Qobuz 12,50 per month if you sign up for an annual subscription.
