How to play only favorite tracks from multiple albums (ref#C9W1O6)

I want to do the following, but it seems this is not possible?

In the artist screen I want to select multiple albums and have Roon play only my favorite tracks from these albums (with one or two clicks).

What works is:

  1. Select multiple albums and hit play, but this plays all tracks form these albums.
  2. Click on one album and use focus which plays only the favorite tracks, but only of this one album.

I want a combination of both. Maybe I am overlooking something.

This ^ post is a bit older and doesn’t know about Smart Playlists yet. In current Roon, you can follow the steps in the ^ post and then create a Smart Playlist from the selection:

Thanks, this indeed works!

Unfortunately, for me it’s only a workaround that I probably won’t be using, because I never use the “tracks” page for selecting music.

I always select the music I want to play via artist and albums pages. So an easy solution via this way would be highly appreciated.

I guess this would be a feature request then, a play option like “play favorite tracks” of the selected artist or album.

Well, if you want to select & play specific tracks, the tracks page is the place. Anyway, you only have to do this once and create a smart playlist from it (which still isn’t playing from the artist and albums pages, but it seems a reasonable solution to add selected tracks to a (smart) playlist).

At least it works

You can try, of course

I understand that, also the possibility of smart playlists is nice to have, but that’s just not the way I listen to music.

I also don’t like the (endless) vertical placement of playlists, either at the left side or, when selected, in the middle. Not much clarity and so much real estate wasted, especially on an ultra wide screen.

I come from Foobar2000 where I had multiple tabs for everything (instead of playlists), horizontally arranged with easy drag and drop from folders in the file manager.

I understand that this is not the way Roon UI works (not even with folder browsing). There are of course lots of other advantages that outweigh these disadvantages. That’s the reason why I switched several years ago, but sometimes I mourn a little

Hello @econaut,

Thanks for the feedback here. Since this is not a current feature of Roon, I would recommend also posting your suggestion in the Feature Suggestions section of the site.

Our product team and developers keep a close eye on that category, so that’s definitely the best place to propose a change like this and get feedback from the Community.
