HQPlayer and Multiple NAAs in the House

Before you start the client you have to start the Desktop Application. Then start the Client.

It’s currently running. I just thought I’d try this after reading about it.

Client is only for use with Linux-based OS. You may need to install desktop!

Cheers,

If you have HQPlayer Desktop running somewhere, please check that it has the ā€œAllow network controlā€ button pressed in the toolbar. It is the rightmost one there.

No, Client works with all HQPlayer server flavors on all platforms… It is intended for controlling both Embedded and Desktop products. And the platform used to run Client can be different than the platform used to run the server.

So it is pretty normal to run Client on iPad for example.

I just checked and that button was already selected. It sounds like my iPad and Desktop aren’t connecting for some reason. I use HQ Player Desktop with Roon if that makes any difference but everything besides this is working as expected.

Which OS are you running Desktop on? I assume both are connected to your regular home network?

If you are on Windows, please check from Windows network settings that the network type is set to ā€œPrivateā€, Windows has bad habit of sometimes quietly changing the network type to ā€œPublicā€ in the background, which makes the firewall block incoming traffic.

Client and HQPlayer and HQPlayer Desktop server also ask for permissions to look for devices within the local network. You can also just type in the HQPlayer server IP address to the entry box and tap enter.

@jussi_laako, for those us with iPhones and no iPad, is there a way to switch settings files/setups short of remoting into the HQP server? Put another way, is there a client application such as you describe above that works on an iPhone rather than an iPad? Thanks. JCR

HQPDcontrol is such and should be able to do it. It is available for iOS and Android.

@jussi_laako, I of course know I can change filters and shapers with HQPD and it’s a wonderful resource. But, I have a set of Settings with differing inputs, convolution filters, no. of channels, etc. I might assume that I’d see the list under Configuration in HQPD, but default is the only choice there. My settings exported from HQP are on my server’s desktop. Do I need to export my various HQP settings into a different folder that HQPD recognizes? Thanks. JCR

I can see the frustration

But I’m a bit weird in that I like to exercise my brain sometimes to get different systems playing.

The filters should always be there in matrix profiles so theres no need to upload each time. Using Matrix Profile instead of Convolution

But yes I switch filters, sample rates, modes and number of channels manually - for brain exercise

Also I don’t want to forget the little things otherwise I can help people. For example my dad is on the other side of the country and uses HQPlayer in 3 very different rooms/setups

I make him do the same brain exercise with HQPlayer too :grinning:

Yes, @dabassgoesboomboom, that’s a lot of brain work. I cheat and have saved overall profiles for each filter set, but in HQPD, only default shows up, with the same for configuration. JCR

Thats odd that you cant see anything other than default in HQPD app?

I can see all my Matrix Profiles

@Jeffrey_Robbins i am probably the naive one here, but are you using embedded or desktop? Something about the way you’re describing it makes me wonder whether you’re using embedded and hqpd only partially works for embedded. Not a high confidence guess but thought I’d check.

There are configuration profiles feature now supported on both Desktop and Embedded products. And you can switch between the configurations from HQPlayer Client, and I believe also from HQPDcontrol. On Desktop there’s ā€œCreate profileā€ and ā€œDelete profileā€ features in the File-menu for this. But essentially the config files just need to reside under ā€œcfgsā€ folder under the HQPlayer application data folder. Which on Windows is %LOCALAPPDATA%\HQPlayer\cfgs and on macOS ~/.hqplayer/cfgs

Each config profile of course can then contain any number of matrix profiles etc. But the config profile itself is a complete HQPlayer configuration, including all the matrix profiles.

Which things only partially work with Embedded? I believe Ales can fix things that don’t operate correctly. Because it should work the same on both, since both share the same control API…

Mac OS 15.3.2. Under System Settings/Privacy & Security/Local Network HQPlayer Desktop has been given access. I can open the Client dialog box which has places for the server IP address but am not able to edit any of the information. Client also has allow network access turned on.

This one is not connected to any server. From the main window, top-left corner drop list you can select one of the discovered servers (or ā€œlocalhostā€ which is always there static option regardless if one exists). You can also manually enter IP address there if the (multicast) discovery fails for some reason.

Once you are connected to a HQPlayer server, those fields will be populated.

That’s the problem I tried to explain in my previous post. I cannot select Local Host nor enter the address of my server. It won’t let me edit any of the information.

Well, this is a little weird. After a couple of days of the only choice in the dropdown being Local Host, this morning it also listed my server and was able to connect to it. Sorry to have bothered you, thanks for your help.

@jussi_laako and @dabassgoesboomboom — as now understood, all of my xml profiles were saved on my Desktop manually and not under the cfgs folder under HQP appdata. Once I copied them all into that folder, they all appear under the configurations in HQPD. This is wonderful! Thanks. JCR
