HQPlayer Embedded Discussion

Since we are on Roon forum, Roon is one option to do that. BubbleUPnP or mConnect Player are other options.

Of streaming services, HQPlayer natively supports Qobuz and HRA.

Amount of delay depends on your settings. But also VM will certainly add quite a bit of lag by itself to everything.

I’m using parametric EQ with version 5.1.1 on heavy filters SECv7 + 512 DSD x48 Sinc-M/Sinc-ls and no droppings. Intel i9 13000 on Unbuntu.
Can’t overclock my CPU to handle EC modulators x DSD 1024, but non EC working ok DSD x 1024 .

Anyway my little beast deskmini b660 with Noctuna fan works great, quiet and fits on my listening area.

Cool, they released the new Pi 5, I wonder how it would perform for a DSP with HQPE. 8 channels for low and high pass filters

It’s only quad-core, so not great for multichannel (typically you’d have minimum one or two cores per channel). But it has more CPU power and almost double memory bandwidth. So if it could do DSD256 with ASDM7EC-light modulator it would be already perfect.

Well, depending on how you look at it, the old Core I3 4370 (2/4), with 8 channels, worked well for me, and it even worked quite well with upsampling 44.100 to 192

Yeah, it depends what you do exactly and what kind of low/high-pass filters you have. PCM upsampling to 192k is pretty light.

Upsampling to 8 channels of DSD256 together with big convolution filters can be quite different. Or if you want to play DSD sources to 192k PCM output.

@jussi_laako Are you planning to release a version of HQPE for Pi5?

The current one already works if you mean just HQPlayer itself. But if you mean HQPlayer OS, then yes, certainly that too.

Hi @jussi_laako . I guess that Nvidia have not released the CUDA support for Debian 12 yet. I can see only bullseye download directory for HQPlayer Embedded.

Is there any workaround in order to run HQPlayer Embedded 4 on Debian Bookworm? I can’t use HQPe since I updated my Intel NUC from Debian 11 to 12. That’s the Intel NUC where Roon Server runs.

Thanks.

Yes, that’s the case. They still support just Debian 10 and 11. Not 12 yet.

Same for Fedora, they support still just Fedora 37, but not 38 yet.

I don’t know, I have not updated any of my Debian systems yet.

It is good idea to wait applications to move support to the new distro version before upgrading. My Roon Server is still happily running on Debian 11, so it is not necessary to upgrade from Roon point of view.

Thanks @jussi_laako.

I’m not an early updater, but this time I did and I have won my reward

Voila!

After 76 days non-stop journey, my HQPlayer Embedded server finally requred a restart.

It lived its long life through several HQP 5 incarnations one after another. And finally smth went wrong in switching to “Sinc-LL” filter - somehow CUDA got impacted with the message in nvidia-smi: “Failed to initialize NVML: Driver/Library version mismatch”

Not a big deal after 76 days of non stop run - reboot cured it all.

Time to mingle with overclocking? hehe

How do you check clipping using HQplayer Embedded version ?

On “Main” webpage you see “limited” (should be 0 all the time)

“Client” app will also show you.

Ha! Thanks! Was thinking only about the app option only :joy:

Help!! I run HQPlayer > opticalRendo > Mutec mc-3+usb > DAC and it has been fine. I have now updated the opticalRendu to v2.9 and the opticRednu hs become the endpoint and Roon no longer plays through HQPlayer. HQPlayer no longer finds the Mutec as the endpoint. Any ideas please!!

Power down the rendu, remove the v2.9 SD card, insert the v2.8 SD card, power up. Should be back working.
There are problems with v2.9 and some dacs.
Contact Sonore support with your info. Maybe have a look at this thread:

It was simply me being stupid and forgetting to turn on the HQPlayer app. Done now and sounding very good.

Hah, good one. Looks like you are good to go on v2.9 then. Some people (like me) are having problems with v2.9. It doesn’t like my Denafrips Dac with the latest update they did on v2.9.

I’m not sure about a difference in sound quality, it’s possible, I actually think investment in a hearing aid may well be the next uplift!!
