Is it possible to skip the 1.8 “Upgrade” until the issues are fixed?
Looks like a fix for non-US English iOS crashes has been released.
Because new software releases can be a mixed bag, I prefer to wait a month before upgrading. The first phase of a release is usually a quasi extended beta test. By waiting a bit, all this consternation is largely avoided as Roon will fix the bugs. I simply decline the 1.8 update until the coast is clear.
I do this with major Mac OS updates as well.
I share your views 100%…thats what happens when companies get lost on the way to blind expansion and little improvement.
As a lifetime memebr I will revert to managing my music serever without Roon. I am sure upcoming rivals will learn and grow.
I agreed with you that the issues listed are real, I also see the same issues, but I would not label 1.8 is a ‘massive’ failure.
To me, these are bugs, and they are not ‘design’ issues and I am sure that they will be easily addressed in due course.
This release is working great for me. The sound has also improved with the core changes they made. It is more relaxed and I have actually turned off HQPlayer to enjoy it. Only complaint is that when returning from a selected suggested new release, it goes to beginning of the list.
I bought a used i5 Surface Pro 2 specifically to be my core as it consumes little power or space and it has been flawless on that 7 year old hardware running Win 10…
Can we all just CALM DOWN!!!

Team Roon’s ‘Metal Machine Music’…
Agree with most of this - especially points 2, 4, 10 and 11. Especially hope we will be able to adjust font size and quantity of visible album covers in the future.
Bloody unstable. I don’t understand why they even release this piece of ■■■■■ Now I have to quit and relaunch the core in order for me to be able to select the output device. To the Roon team , I am not interested in your bloody new UI but rather a stable software. You guys screw it up and release this and caused so much agony. If I can roll back I rather go back to 1.7.
At least the grey kitchen laminate tiles are gone, hated them, the initials are not better, but lazier shortcut… Not quite the metadata masters, hey Roon?
Quite a lot of photos don’t bear any relationship to say when an album was published, the artist’s page is a whole pile of strangers, far as I’m concerned.
Roon 1.8 build 756 already available…
All issues are gone.
Thank you Roon for your quick answer to 753 build version (a mess).
The color scheme is horrendous. The purple is definitely not pleasing to the eye. I used to like the color scheme. As a former software engineer who has worked with designers, I can’t fathom how this design and color scheme was picked. I’m sure I’ll discover many more things when using it, but this was my first impressions. .
Tidal dfops out
color scheme isn’t so bad i kinda like the purple.
vertical scroll for albums made me sad initially… but honestly shouldn’t it always have been this way? feels more intuitive and less unique.
one big question i have - how do i sort to top 250/500 albums played. that’s my favorite view but it’s only available on my mac remote - it was there initially on my iPad but has since disappeared and i can’t find it for the life of me.
Wow, some very polarizing feedback here. I’ve written software for >20 years, so my thoughts and dev-hugs go out to the Room team. I’m sure they worked a long time on this massive overhaul for some very, ahem, passionate (read: hypercritical) audiophiles.
My biggest feedback on 1.8 is that its a huge win for one reason: the UI is finally fast. Old Roon was always way, way too slow…2 to 4 second load times just for navigating through albums, even on pages you just loaded. Its possible this was better on non-Mac/iOS platforms, but it seemed like a fundamental problem with <1.7.
With 1.8 I can finally just breeze through my collection and everything is snappy and smooth. It feels much more like browsing through LPs or CDs when you can very quickly jump through genres and albums.
The stability issues will get worked out, and the UX will hopefully continue to improve. I’m just very happy that the overall experience is so much faster and more fun to use.

I HAD the same appearance on Win 10. GENERAL settings only.
As a work around you have to install the Windows English US laguage pack and temporarily switch to English as Roon display language. Then you will see all other settings like audio, library etc.
New release is out solving this issue, see Release Notes
Sad but maybe true
The variation of kit, PC, tablets etc in use and quite often the lack of standards therein make this kind of launch a nightmare.
I have often agreed with Roon’s non disclosure of release dates and content ! I wonder if letting the press in early forced a and that otherwise would not have played
I have full confidence in Roon to fix any bugs. If you don’t like the look and feel doesn’t suit that’s a choice , the design is Roon’s not ours …
Just my 2p
Ps mine updated fine , I can see a few flaws but in less than 8 hrs use who can really comment
