Interesting choice of music one of my daily mixes [Investigating]

@nathan
I had a Madonna Mix yesterday that was nothing but Madonna tracks even though the description listed other artists. I did save the playlist in case.

Thanks.

I’ve got some good examples that consistently produce pretty atrocious mixes so I’m getting a good handle on what’s going on here. Just trying to orient myself in the right direction for the overall fix.

I would like to add another aspect:

Earlier on, there was a nice shift in Artists with Your Daily Mixes.

Last months, the number of different artists is quite limited, and some artists will never give up (included at least once a week):
Melody Gardot, Norah Jones, Diana Krall
Nils Lofgren, Dire Straits, Deep Purple

And I am sure, in the coming days I will see some familiar faces again.

I’d never even heard of Nils Lofgren, let alone played any of his music but yet I have a Daily Mix by him this week.

That is not to be unexpected. Daily Mixes are not just for stuff you have listened to or have in your library; but are also for Discovery. So, there might be an artist that is chosen for a Daily Mix as part of that Discovery process.

I find the more niche the Daily Mixes, the better. It seems to be the more generalized artists/genres that have the most issues. For Example, The Bitchin’ Bajas mix this morning is pretty straight on ambient rock, but this Miles Davis mix on the other hand: what are Steely Dan and Van Morrison doing here??

Ok so this particular problem of random unpopular stuff getting thrown into a mix has been fixed. A couple of small bugs worked together to make a bit of a mess. I just generated a bunch of mixes on your profile and none of them had anything that stood out as immediately out of place.

I think we’re solved here for the moment.

Is there a thread kicking around for playlists with repetitive content like this? If not feel free to create one and tag me on it so that that particular issue is more visible. I’m working my way through the issues on mixes and that is a separate issue to the issue that this thread started with.

There are a ton of threads about repetitiveness in Roon Radio. This is probably the most recent one:

There is a spreadsheet linked in my most recent post showing how a radio session stops finding new artists and albums.

Using Pink Floyd radio as an example, it often throws in some very odd suggestions - Michael Jackson for example!

Another good thread here:

Radio is next - I’m asking about mixes

I had nearly posted the same link about repetition in Radio, but then I realized that Nathan had asked about repetition in Daily Mixes instead

Ah, sorry. This any good?

Perfect - I’ve got a couple other bugs with mixes generation ahead of this one but hopefully some iterations on mixes content are right around the corner.

Which subsystem of Roon’s backend does influence the ‘Genres for you’ recommendations on the start page?

This is what I listened to during the last 12 months:

Now, how would Roon arrive at these recommendations:

I have a ‘Dire Straits’ daily mix today which contains the track ‘Thriller’ by Michael Jackson. Is that to be expected?

Is it good? No.

Is it expected? Yes, it is within the permitted rules of mixes.

I’m going to be looking at mixes content improvement under another header - after some bug fixes and fixing the issues leading to the creation of single-artist mixes. So since I’ve solved the issue of egregious recommendations like Lana Del Rey → Bone Gnawer and this thread has a green tick it might be best to start another thread for the issue of silly recommendations like Dire Straits → Michael Jackson for visibility. If everything else was working and occasionally MJ would sneak in on Dire Straits it’d be weird but fine.

A step in the right direction!

I definitely didn’t order it in increasing play weight instead of decreasing play weight by accident when fixing the previous bad sorting.
