Hello @eluse9

Thank you for reaching Roon support.

Would you kindly describe the issue in more detail? The step-by-step screenshots will be greatly appreciated

Hi @eluse9,

Thanks for writing in again! We took another look at a fresh diagnostic report from your Roon Server, and saw the playback failures you mention. They include the following errors:

Trace: [SteelSeries Arena 9] [raatclient] GOT [6] {"status":"UnexpectedError","message":"RAAT__OUTPUT_PLUGIN_STATUS_FORMAT_NOT_SUPPORTED"}
Warn: [Arena 9] [zoneplayer/raat] failed to setup any endpoints..giving up

That RAAT__OUTPUT_PLUGIN_STATUS_FORMAT_NOT_SUPPORTED error in your Roon logs usually means the endpoint (your SteelSeries Arena 9) is rejecting the audio format Roon is trying to send.

Roon is attempting to send PCM 48 kHz / 16-bit stereo, but the Arena 9’s RAAT implementation (or its Windows audio driver) is telling Roon: “I can’t accept that format.”

Can you double-check your file format playback settings, and let me know if that helps?

Thank you!

I checked in the Roon Audio device setup and there are no file format playback settings available to me

Ans I checked my PC Sound settings and they are set to 16 bit, 48000 HZ

Am I looking in the wrong places??

Hey @eluse9 !

We have just received an analytics data report from your server and can see that you were able to play a multichannel song.

08/21 10:46:57 Trace: [Arena 9] [LowQuality, 24/44 MP3 => 16/48 6ch] [100% buf] [PLAYING @ 2:58/4:28] Precious Thing - Heather Nova

Can you please describe how you were able to play it successfully ?

Did you manage to change any other settings ?

Thanks in advance!

Looking forward to your reply!

Regards.

Ha. That’s funny. I was fast asleep, I didn’t do anything. The Audio page of Roon settings cycles on a regular basis though, so the program is doing stuff on it’s own. I didn’t play that song - but I guess it tried again and got a too many failures error because is got a Chris de Burgh song queued up now.

Hi @eluse9 ,

The pattern that we see in the diagnostics is that when trying to play stereo content, the playback fails, but the 6ch content worked in the past as expected. This means that the device is likely requiring multichannel content to work properly. I noticed in your earlier screenshot that you didn’t have multichannel options, but I wonder if the device was not reporting the capabilities properly. You still don’t see a way to set the channel layout to 6ch in Device Setup → Advanced by any chance?

I do not see a way to set it to 6 channel. the only other option is channel mapping and that makes no difference.
Just as an FYI as the app cycles I often get limited zone options

Good day @eluse9 !

Thanks for confirming!

Could you please also let us know whether you play your local files in DSD or in PCM ?

We have just spotted that during advertisement your Arena 9 zone has returned that it does not support DSD files.

Can you please try to play PCM files or enable conversion to DSD ?

Looking forward to your reply!

Regards.

I am using either FLAC or MP3 files

Hi @eluse9,

Can you check to see if the ‘Upmix’ setting is enabled on the Arena 9? If not, can you test out enabling it and test if you’re able to play non-multi-channel content?

I’d also double-check if you’re able to update the firmware for the device:

https://support.steelseries.com/hc/en-us/articles/26712865249677-How-do-I-update-the-firmware-on-my-supported-SteelSeries-headset

Let me know if either of the above help! :+1:

No, there is no upmix setting in Sound properties for the Steel Series.
I downloaded the Steel Series software and there was no firmware update available.
When I did that, all three of my Audio Zones/devices on my PC (Steel Series through USB-C, Steel Series through optical and my headphones) disappeared from the Roon Audio devices/Zones.
I shut down the app and re-opened it to no avail.

Good day @eluse9 !

Could you please let us know whether you faced this issue before the update to version 2.54 of Roon ? It was around 20th of Aug.

This will help us to understand whether the issue you face is related to the recent update.

Thanks!

Looking forward to your reply!
