Introducing the next evolution of Roon Ready tech!

What you mean with ‘Vinyl setup’? do you have a turntable connected to Roon in some way? Curious and interested…

Not yet. That’s why I’m waiting for this new thing roon is going to release in January.

I use a waxwing phono DSP that already offers DSP features, click and pop removal , rumble filter etc … but using its digital output as source for roon to enhance it with OPRA and crossfeed is very tempting

Hmm, very interesting, i’ll keep me tuned…

Maybe, with the help of some intelligence we will get even cover art for the different sources.

Sounds a bit like a reboot of this, now with a name

Just to say that this is currently possible - I use rooPlay to connect my turntable to roon (via a RME ADI2/4 that does the RIAA and A/D conversion).

Yeah but it requires Rooplay , a Rme dac and it’s just a radio stream. I’m looking for a simpler solution

Yeah already said this has been available in api for sometime. Someone in marketing cottoned on to it and it’s now got a new fancy name and they are doing a push on it.

This looks interesting, looking forward to more information.

There have been posts on how to do so since 2016. Most all involve icecast to stream it as an incoming radio station.

In 2019 a fellow user wrote a very nice tutorial.

I didn’t see the “coming soon at CES 2025”. Thanks!

Is this likely to work with Apple TV? Would love to route audio through Roon and Muse for eq, but id imagine video sync would be tough.

 that will make the “post your critters” thread very interesting…

My cynicism immediately advises me that it won’t be reasonable, there’ll be lashings of marketing speak and commensurate pricing…

Current diy extension causes a large delay minimum 5 secs so don’t expect this to be a viable use case. Whilst software and hardware choices may reduce it some it will still have a delay you will have no way to compensate for without a device to delay the video.

The cynic in me thinks that this is likely to be true - at least for the first offerings. This is why I’m hoping for a DIY solution.

Hopefully, as time goes on, there may be some lower cost options - for example, the WiiM Pro/Pro Plus etc already have the ADC. If they have enough processor/memory resource, they may well be able to offer ‘Roon Ready Relay’ in addition to ‘Roon Ready’ in due course.

I’m not holding my breath though. Roon Ready has been something of a niche market until relatively recently (you could argue it still is) and Roon Ready Relay is likely to be even more so. I suspect that companies offering low cost solutions will be looking very closely at the business model - how may extra sales vs cost of implementation - and I suspect that, for many at the low cost end of the market, the business case will not add up :frowning:

Im hoping for a raspberry pi 5 solution with a dac hat for example. Not going to buy multiple roon relay endpoints for a couple hundred bucks each

Wouldn’t need an RPi5. A RPi Zero 2 W would be adequate although it would be better with an Ethernet connection rather than relying upon WiFi.

An RPi4 would be more than adequate.

I am still hopeful. We have Roon Bridge software for the Rpi and I hope for Relay, not that I have a personal use case at the moment.
There are people who want to use Roon at the more budget end of the market & I include myself in that demographic, exorbitantly priced equipment may make some think they are buying something more “audiophile” but most of us know that is not always the case.
Case in point, the WiiM Pro/Plus.

These devices have an ADC in them to handle the analogue input. Imagine if they became ‘Roon Ready Relay’ as well as ‘Roon Ready’. I don’t know if it would even be possible -there may be new resource requirements that the current Wiim devices do not satisfy (in exactly the same way as the Wiim Mini does not have the resources to support Roon Ready) - but if it were, they would then be a truly superb option for many.

Yes. I know. The ADC in with Wiim Pro/Plus is by no means state of the art, but for casual use they would make a great introduction to the possibilities of analogue audio input into Roon.

Having said that, I would like to see other possibilities as well - like SPDIF into Roon, Airplay/Chromecast into Roon and even bluetooth audio (codecs permitting) into Roon.
