iOS ROON app "low" refresh rate

Hey,

I’ve been using ROON for a few months now, and so far I’ve been really pleased. I control my music mostly through my iPhone. When I first started using ROON, I had a regular iPhone 12 (60Hz display). I’ve recently upgraded to an iPhone 15 Pro with a 120Hz display (the biggest selling point for me personally), but the ROON app still has a low refresh rate. I was wondering why that is. I’m interested in buying a tablet for the sole reason of controlling ROON, and I wanted to know if I get a high refresh-rate tablet if it’s gonna have the same issue. I like the Apple ecosystem, so I’m deciding between a refurbished Pro model with a ProMotion display, or saving a lot of money, and going for a non-Pro version.

It might seem like a minor issue to most people, but as a PC gamer, it’s really easy to tell the difference between refresh rates, and it adds to my user experience, and I’d be willing to invest a bit more. However, going to the store and test it, is not an option. There are devices in our electrics store you can interact with, but you can’t really install apps and see how they work, especially since you obviously need a ROON server on the same network.

EDIT: I’m not talking about any scrolling issues, or weird behaviour. It all works fine, it’s just not as smooth as I would’ve hoped for.

I think you are suffering from this issue:

Hi @Leroy_la_Fontaine,

There’s a ticket in with development to allow Roon to lock to the higher refresh rate (120FPS) on ProMotion-equipped iOS devices.

There’s room for improvement in scrolling on iOS at lower frame rates. We’re often limited by the imprecision of language when we attempt to reproduce user reports of slow, resisted, or even choppy scrolling. However, we do investigate every report. If you find scrolling laborious in Roon, providing a video using another phone is the most efficient path to resolution - this allows our QA team to see the actual hand gesture that is triggering motion, rather than attempting to fix it blindly.

We’ve retitled the thread @Suedkiez shared for clarity - please look there for updates as the ticket to adapt to higher frame rates on Pro-series phones moves through the pipeline.

Thank you!
