· Hello, I have a question about the iPhone Roon Arc app crashing. The server connection is fine, and I'm connected, but after playing music for about a minute or two, the app freezes and the screen turns off. Why is this happening, and what should I do? Please provide a detailed explanation. Also, my Roon sub email is [redacted], and I have a sub on my Mac Mini. If you can confirm that it's the correct sub, please let me know. Thank you.

Hi @JoungHo_Joung,

It’s not a good idea to post you email address on public forums… thus I have removed them from your post.

Roon support will follow here to provide help after the weekend.

Hi @JoungHo_Joung,

Thanks for reaching out, and thanks to Carl for flagging the email address — that was the right call.

As a next step, could you please take a look at the following thread and let us know whether the behavior you’re seeing matches what’s described there?

Your confirmation will help us determine whether this is the same underlying issue and how best to proceed.

We’ll be happy to continue from there once we hear back from you.

Hi @JoungHo_Joung,

Diagnostics indicate that your Roon library contains over 600,000 tracks.

This is, unfortunately, far beyond the tested limits of the ARC framework. ARc has to sync a “lite” version of the database in order to maintain parity with RoonServer when you’re offline. This doesn’t just include any tracks you’ve downloaded locally to the phone - it’s actually the full accompanying object data for your library, like metadata, play counts, etc.

Apple and Android impose limits for how much data - and how much of the available system resources - any one app can demand. Syncing and performing with 600k+ tracks far exceeds these limits. As a result, iOS is throttling the app’s network and memory access, which can cause performance decline and/or crashing.

You’ll need to slim down this database to within the supported range - we recommend a maximum of about 100-200k tracks if you want ARC to be reliable. Note that simply removing watched folder content won’t do, since Roon retains those database objects in the library after deletion. You’ll need to recreate a new, smaller database or restore from a Backup when your library had a smaller total volume.

The ARC team constantly works to expand what’s possible with the app, but you’re unfortunately up against a real constraint of mobile phone operating systems.
