Is muse upsample feature useful when using M-Scaler?

I use Chord TT2 with M-Scaler. It is connected my Melco N1A-2EX Network transport via USB, and Melco is run as Roon bridge, it can process maximum 352.8KHz and 32bit PCM and DSD512.
Roon Rock is installed dedicated industrial mini PC, not NUC, but do very good job until now. I use iPad for Roon Remote and Roon ARC for carplay. It is my Roon configuraton.
Since I use M-Scaler, I never bother myself any upsampling feature because M-Scaler is dedicated device for that function. However, out of curiosity, if I enable upsample feature and do any 44.1KHz to 352.8KHz, and feed it to M-Scaler, is there any improvement will be on this chain?
M-Scaler do 44.1 to 705Khz anyway, and all DSD also change to PCM as well. It is Chordā€˜s unique design (is what Rob Watt said on head-fi forum).

I do enable this feature on MUSE and compare with and without it, but to be honest I canā€™t find any differences(Maybe my ear is already to old to find diffrerencesā€¦) except red light(indicate incoming signal is 44.1Khz) change to dark purple color light(indicate incoming signal is 352.8KHz). I would like to hear what others who use M-Scaler experience or opinion about thisā€¦

No its of no use whatsoever, if you have invested in the mscaler use it or sell it on and let Roon upsample for you. Its your choice.

As a general rule, if you buy into Chord Electronics, only use the original sample rate and PCM.

Thanks for your opinion. Same as my idea. Sell it and let Roon do the upsampling or donā€™t use any feature and let M-scaler to do the job.

Thanks too. Question is just out of curiosity. Apparently answer is obviousā€¦

FOMO, maybe?
Honestly, do you hear any difference when inserting the M-Scaler into your chain?
Not meaning any offense, rather a sanity check.

I use M-Scaler just after purchase TT2. Perhaps a month or two later? Since then, I always use it for daily music listening. Honestly, I canā€™t hear that ā€œhugeā€ differences because, there should be many reason that ā€œAudiophilesā€ can name it such as Amps are not High-end therefore canā€™t produce much differences, or listener is too old to decern small differences of harmonics, so on.

However, I did send my M-Scaler away for a week for fix button, at that time, I suffered and aware that sound is different then when I use it. Maybe it is placebo, maybe not. But I wonā€™t take away M-Scaler from my chain, anyway.

FYI., my Melco N1A processes up to PCM 768, so you may want to check the menu for updates.

Oh, I checked it, indeed it support max 768Khz PCM and 22.6MHz DSD (DSD512). I believed it as max 352.8KHz PCM and DSD256. Thanks a lot!!

FWIW I use Dave/Mscaler and as you observe the differences (or benefits?) are not easy to identify. However, after a prolonged period of listening removal of the Mscaler is noticeable and there is a change in ā€œAuroraā€ or ā€œAtmosphereā€ which is difficult to define.

Could I live without the Mscaler, probably, but would I want toā€¦ā€¦

Exactly what Iā€™ve experienced. Even with Dave, I believe there is much gap between with and without MS. There will be Choral range MScaler named Qurtet which will matching with Dave, and Utilma DAC as well, but it needs very deep pocketā€¦ there is some alternatives such as MSB or dCS if investment scale is like Ultima gradeā€¦ I would say, it is absurd, for me at least. :joy:

Not entirely true, Muse can be used to default the output sample rates to 48Khz which would then ā€œforceā€ Mscaler to perform at 768Khz (as opposed to the OPā€™s current 705Khz). Whether or not thereā€™s an audible difference/benefit is debatable and up to the end user to decide but it is an option.

Wow! I never think of that idea! Great!
I always why M-Scaler only show 705, not 768 because most of the music is 44KHz, sometimes 48, MQA goes to 88, seldom 92 and 192. One question, there is no option to set like only 44 to 48, and not upsample all others over 44. How can I set this on MUSE??

Iā€™m not sure of the capabilities of the Melco N1A-2EX but with my Lumin the options are present (as in the screenshot). While numerically it is a desirable setting I havenā€™t been able to detect any difference between 705 or 768ā€¦

Wow thanks, I learned a lot from this thread! I did not even thought that custom setting is thereā€¦! i I set it up today for 44 to 48, 48 to default, 88 to 92, 92 to defaultā€¦ so on. And it worked as charm. Now my M-Scaler shows only 768 signal. Great!
