I’m not sure if you are looking for help from Roon with this but if you do require help from the support team, please open a support request in the Support category of the forum which is monitored by Roon.

I’ve had many dropouts in the past with Roon when I was using WiFi to connect my Roon Server to my network. Even with a full signal strength indicator and 700-800 mbit connection speed.
After connecting my server to Ethernet I have never had a dropout since. Not with a direct Ethernet connection to the router or through an unmanaged network switch.
I would suggest trying an unmanaged switch as I seem to remember reading that managed ones can cause problems with Roon.
The RAAT protocol has deliberately a very small buffer in order to sync several zones , many other streaming protocols have large buffer hence a slight delay starting while the buffer is built then NO dropouts. JRiver even has a setting to buffer an entire album
Hi CrystalGipsy,
I do not use flow control setups in my network environment. Still testing but there is simply nothing in the error logs or intrusion detection scans. The network is OK and works as expected.
Hi SandsOfArrakis,
I use 1Gbit LAN for all audio equipment.
Just a hint: You mentioned someone told you “Managed switches” are not recommended. Do not listen to such experts. It is the same category of knowhow as those experts who propose to switch off the Firewalls in order to make their “solutions” work…. Never ever follow such “recommendations”
Roon just says that they can’t support managed switches and don’t recommend them for amateurs. This is completely reasonable because there’s a thousand ways to cause trouble with managed switches, and just look at the trouble many people already have with the most straightforward setups.
I’ve been using Tidal since Roon into existence and never have issues on streaming. From ROCK to Nucleus, I’ve been part of Roon+Tidal journey all along. Now Tidal have ditch MQA and opt for high Res lossless streaming plus lowered the subscription fee, it just gets better
It’s really hard to diagnose a problem without seeing the patient!
What core do you have? What endpoint do you have? What connects core and endpoint? What connects endpoint and DAC?
Some things to consider. RaspberryPi Roon Cobbler works just fine. Exotic hardware is not needed. Wired Ethernet is a great interconnect. No issues on the hard. WiFi can be another matter.
Network management, VLANS, and managed switches work just fine here but mine are Ubiquity UniFi pro stuff. But everybody uses the same Broadcomm bits. If they can follow a data sheet and spec a proper power supply, Netgear should be good. They’ve been OK here in the past.
If you are using SPDIF, you need to be careful to use proper coax between the endpoint and the DAC. Not just any RCA cable will work. Impedance matters. The cables to use are video patch cables. Blue Jeans Cables will make what you need using the right kind of Belden coax and RCA connectors.
Windows USB can be a problem. Schiit has a support note on USB drivers for windows before Win 10. You should be 10 or 11 by now. Linux and Mac USB are good.
I have not trouble with Qobuz here. Roon pre-stages the track in the server. Internet congestion is usually not an issue. The problem is most likely in house.
Yes, this is indeed a good indicator for lack of knowledge in regard to networks.
Let me say it this way: “An unmanaged switch is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re going to get.”
I recommend at least smart managed switches such as e.g. Netgear GS308Ev4.
VLANs, QoS, Multicast, Diagnose etc. are absolute minimum requirements in order to setup the network correctly and to know what’s going on in your network.
Sweeping statements like this without proper analysis are part of the problem.
All of the listed techniques are a sure-fire way for amateurs to break their networks, and obviously Roon can’t be expected to fix this remotely for free.
Hi,
I started with Wimp and yes Tidal is OK and I like it. the topic is not about Tidal. As I mentioned playing Tidal thru Tidal Connect never cause dropouts…
I studied Computer Sciences and Electrotechnics. So, I am able to evaluate a network and assure all is setup correctly.
Anyhow, switche’s firmware might cause problems but without any log entries and error indicators its hardly possible to assume the root cause. Especially as streaming from other services such as Qobuz or locally stored music thru Roon and as mentioned thru Tidal Connect does not cause any dropouts…
