Hey @Luca_Sartori,

Sorry to hear you’re having issues logging into last.fm!

Can you confirm you were able to log into last.fm directly, outside of Roon?

If you haven’t yet, please top Roon Server from running, and reboot your server machine. Then, see if you’re able to log in. If you’re unsuccessful, please use the directions found here and send over a set of Roon Server logs to our File Uploader?

Thank you! :raised_hands:

Thanks, I sent the logs with the file uploader

Hey @Luca_Sartori,

We unfortunately weren’t able to discover anything surrounding the issue from the log set you sent over.

Do you have any issues here?

If you haven’t yet, please reboot your router and let me know if you still have issues. Thank you! :raised_hands:

The login from the page https://www.last.fm/it/login works without any issues.
I have restarted the router and the Roon server again, but the access issue remains unchanged.

Hi @Luca_Sartori ,

We tried Last.fm on our end, but it appears to be working as expected. Can you please try the login once more and let us know the exact local time + date you try to perform this action?

I can’t say for sure if this will help, but you can also try to change your Router’s DNS servers from the ISP-provided ones to Cloudflare DNS, Quad9 or Google DNS.

I tried to change the DNS.

In fact, using Google DNS, when logging in from a browser, a message appears to disable AdBlocker (even though I don’t have adblocker installed).

I then set the DNS with Cloudflare and in this way, when logging in from a browser, it doesn’t display messages for Adblocker; logging in from Roon still doesn’t work :frowning:

I tried to log in on February 5th 2:26pm Italian time.

Hey @Luca_Sartori,

Thanks for the update - we’re still not seeing any direct errors related to the timestamp you’ve provided. Does this issue occur no matter the remote you attempt to log into from?

Do you have a direct ethernet connection from your server to your router? I’d bypass any additional network gear you may have in between the two.

Hello,

The issue occurs regardless of where I connect from, whether using a Windows PC or the Android app.

For further testing, I used my Windows PC (from which I can access Last.fm via a browser) that is directly connected to the router via cable. I disconnected the PC from my home Roon server, started the Roon server on the Windows PC connected to the local Roon server, and attempted to authenticate Audioscrobbler on Last.fm, but I still encountered the same error.
In this configuration I attempted to connect on February 6 at 11:37 AM (Rome time) from Windows.

In my “standard home setup,” the Roon server runs on an Arch Linux VM (installed following these instructions: link). This VM hosts only the Roon server, and aside from the Audioscrobbler Last.fm malfunction, everything else is working correctly.
In this configuration I attempted to connect to the server on February 6 (Rome time):

  • 11:44 AM from Android
  • 11:46 AM from Windows

Let me know if you need any further details. I can grant you remote access to the machine or provide additional logs if necessary.

Hey @Luca_Sartori,

Thanks for the update!

Unfortunately, using Roon in a VM setting falls outside the scope of our support. If you’re able to move your server out of a VM setup, we’d be happy to continue helping, otherwise, we have a dedicated area of community, the Tinkering category where others in VM setups may be able to help.

Let me know! Thanks for your understanding :+1:

Hi Benjamin

Thank you for your quick response.

Perfect. As you read in the previous message I have already moved to a Windows 11 physical machine, but I am still experiencing the same issue.

Is Windows 11 in the scope of your support?

Thanks

Hey @Luca_Sartori,

Thanks for moving your Roon Server over to a supported device - that said, we’re unfortunately still not seeing any traces in a recent diagnostic report around your login attempts.

To ensure we capture the proper timing of this, can you please reproduce the failure a few times, and this time, please use the directions found here and send over a set of manual Roon Server logs to our File Uploader?

That way there shouldn’t be any issue in capturing the failure. Thanks for your cooperation here!

Thanks Benjamin, I sent the logs with the file uploader

@Luca_Sartori - Just a user here but I recently had this issue and was able to resolve it by going to last.fm, settings and deleting out all of my connected applications.

After I did this, I noticed that even Qobuz locally wasn’t connecting to last.fm. After I noticed that, I changed my password in last.fm and tried again with no luck. Then the next morning, I noticed Qobuz connected when I tried at work. I tried on Roon when I got home and it connected and everything went back to normal.

Figured I would document my experience or issues, maybe it can help you out. I hate when my scrobbles aren’t working!

Good Luck!

Hey @Luca_Sartori,

Thanks for sending that log file over! We were finally able to capture the 403 error and observed the following:

<error code="4">Authentication Failed - You do not have permissions to access the service</error>

While our development team investigates this further, we’d be curious to see if @TheRiz response above may be helpful - let us know if you’re able to give it a try, and what the results are.

Thank you! :+1:

Hi @TheRiz

I also have other apps that connect correctly; I use spotify and plex.
On your suggestion I then tried to disconnect all the connected apps, changed the password to access last.fm and tried the connection again from Roon.
Unfortunately the error remains and I cannot connect last.fm from Roon.

Subsequently I successfully connected the Spotify and Plex apps again.
It seems like a network problem; I performed all the tests from the same PC on the same network, the strange thing is that the other applications work and not Roon.

Thanks for the tip and interest in finding the solution

Thanks @Luca_Sartori,

We haven’t been able to reproduce the issue on our end yet - have you checked any active firewalls or third-party network security software that’s active within your setup?

I’d test out disabling any machine firewalls and see if the same issue applies. We’ll follow up with any additional information discovered from our development team. Thank you! :+1:

Hello,

I tried disabling all network firewalls, but the issue persists. From the same computer where Roon Server is installed, access to Last.fm works from the browser, but Roon keeps showing an error.

Hi @Luca_Sartori,

As a next step in testing, are you able to attempt to log in using Wifi from a hot spot off of one of your mobile devices?

In addition, let’s also set up a fresh database on your windows running Roon Server to see if that changes any behavior - steps to follow below:

Let’s try a fresh database and see if your issues persist:

  • Create a Backup of your current database
  • Exit out of Roon + RoonServer (from taskbar area)
  • Navigate to your Roon Database Location
  • Find the folder that says “Roon Server” and “Roon”
  • Rename the “RoonServer” folder to “RoonServer_old” and “Roon” to “Roon_old”
  • Reinstall the Roon App from our Downloads Page to generate a new Roon folder
  • Verify if the issue persists on a fresh database before restoring the backup

Here is the process outlined from a Windows machine:

All Roon_old on Windows

Hi Benjamin, I followed your instructions by performing a fresh installation of Roon with an empty database and connecting to the internet via mobile network. However, I am still experiencing the same issue: logging into the Last.fm website works fine, but Roon’s Audioscrobbler is unable to connect.
