Describe the issue

I have a problem with DSD multichannel content from a Intel NUC windows 10 machine with Roon Bridge to a Marantz AV8805. Music will not be played („Failed to initialize the audio device“). This does not happen if I use Roon ROCK (ALSA) as an endpoint. The problem occurs only if I use exclusive mode with max possible bitrate 192 kHz/24 bit. If I do not use exclusive mode the files will be played with 176,4/24 as expected. If I lower the max rate in device settings to 96 kHz music will be played with 88,2 Khz. So,what is the problem here? Why I cannot play my DSD multichannel files converted to 176,4/24 like under Linux? DSD stereo with only two channles is not affected. Win 10 is up to date with newest drivers. A cable change helped not.

I found the same issue by @Richard_Patton in this thread:

Hey @Enno14,

Thanks for writing in! Sorry to hear about your playback issues. Could you next please reproduce the issue and share a more specific date, time, and name of track played?

Our team will take a closer look from there :+1:

Hi @benjamin,

I tried to play several dsd multichannel tracks about 5 minutes ago with „Failed…“

Does it help?

Thanks @Enno14, our team will take a closer look!

@benjamin

Is there any progress? Do you need some more informations?

Hi @Enno14,

No progress yet, we have a ticket in the queue with our development team, but I’m not able to speak on any timelines, unfortunately.

When I have more information to share, you’ll be notified!

Hi @Enno14,

For our dev team, could you please share a specific step-by-step reproduction of the multichannel failure? This will eliminate any potential variables in our steps to reproduce the issue in-house.

Thank you!

Hi @benjamin

It is quite simple. Try to play a DSD multichannel track with a WIN 10 Intel NUC in WASAPI Exclusive mode. It does not work.

Everything else is written already by @Richard_Patton and me.
