Naim Musos not going into standbye when used with Roon
I have three Naim Musos, one full fat, two QB’s. When they used with Roon, they fail to go into Auto Standby mode after I have stopped playing music through them.
If I use Tidal Connect they work fine, and shut down afterwards.
I have tried them on two seperate networks, and the same issue happens
Well the 1 works with Airplay (and currently needs some workarounds) but that’s still a difference to being Roon Ready and certified by Roon (and using a completely different mechanism). I assume you do use the Roon Ready zone?
I don’t have a Mu-So, but I do have a Naim NDX-2 (Roon Ready) and have no such problem. Haven’t seen any forum posts about this problem either, so it’s weird.
Did you reboot the Mu-sos, the Roon Server, the router and everything?
If it doesn’t help and if nobody else has better ideas, Naim support might be the better avenue because standby surely is a mechanism inside the Mu-so that has probably not very much to do with Roon as such.
YEs its an odd problem. I have actually just moved, so each Muso had a factory reset and there is a new Wifi network with new routers - and the problem persists.
I don’t think its anything to do with the Muso as it works perfectly fine on its own, but as soon as I choose the unit through Roon and listen to something, it then wont go into standby, even if I reset the Roon server.
It’s surely possible that Roon doesn’t correctly tell the Mu-so that it stopped playing and that this leads to not going into standby, but also that the Mu-so somehow doesn’t receive the info or fails to correctly react to it.
In any case, AFAIK Roon doesn’t actively send it into standby but just inhibits it by playing. At least in the NDX-2, the standby configuration is done in the Naim app, so the settings live in the Naim firmware, and the firmware has to decide whether it should send the device into standby, based on the state the device is in.
The Naim guys can retrieve logs from the device, so maybe they see something in there. (At least on the NDX-2 it’s possible to plug in a USB stick with a specifically named file on it, which makes the NDX-2 write logs onto the stick)
I know Naim are not very supportive over their Muso series like they are over their Hifi kit, but I will try raising a support ticket.
As no one else seems to have reported this issue, its why I thought maybe Roon could see something that is causing it. I dont imgine all three of the Musos are faulty, this is why I look towards Roon more over the Musos
Good point, but they could also be somehow affected by the same thing.
I know they don’t really repair them, but dunno about support.
I have looked on the Naim forum if anyone knows a log procedure, but I only found the question once, without an answer. Naim support should know
I don’t know if it works on the Mu-so, but with the NDX-2 you take a USB stick (small is fine), format it as FAT32, and create an empty file on it and name it SupportInfo.naim. After the problem occurs (without rebooting because this erases the logs), one plugs the stick into the USB port and waits a few minutes. (If the stick has a write indicator LED, it will blink as long as it is being written). When the blinking stops (or after a few minutes), unplug the stick. If it works, there should be a new folder SupportInfo.naim-<datetime> that contains the logs.
Mmh, I’m using only one Muso QB-2 in the kitchen and there isn’t any problem with getting into standby after Roon stops playing.
What are your settings for them in Roon and in the devices itself?
We’d certainly be more than happy to take a closer look! Could you please reproduce the issue and share a more specific date, time, and if possible, name of track playing?
From there, we’ll enable diagnostics for your Roon Server and analyze further. Thank you!
Hey @Mikey
I’ve been watching my Mu-so Qb 2 in the kitchen for quite some time now and this error hasn’t occurred once.
Could it be the settings?
In the Other Settings you can find an Auto Standby menu with a choice of times - might be worth checking that the option chosen there is not in conflict e.g Never would seem likley to preclude going to standby.
Aside from that there is a stand by button within the naim app and also one the physical remote.
Thanks for this, good thinking! but alas the stay connected button is off on all the Muso profiles, but ive turned it on and off again just in case it may prompt something
I just re-read the old thread and the support team’s response.
One of the complaints about a memory leak in Roon appliance that has been recurring for years came to mind. Which, among other things, could be a possible explanation for the fact that a reboot solves the problem that only occurs with Roon.
These are just the threads I can think of, there are many more.
