What status do you see when visiting Settings > Roon ARC in Roon?

· ARC is "Not Ready"

Don't give up yet.

· I'm stuck. I'd like to create a post to ask Roon Community for help.

Thank you for your help Suedkiez.

  • I have restarted the only router I have different times.
  • I have enabled/disabled UPNP a number of times and set manually port forwarding. ROCK is running on a static IP.
  • I have no VPs, Firewalls (just Windows), etc.

My guessing is that the connectivity issue with Arc outside my LAN has to do with having a 5G router running on a SIM rather than wired. It seems my current carrier blocks port forwarding due to CGNAT as I have read in other forums online. More info: Port forwarding on ZTE MC801A 5G router not workin... - Three Community - 7823

I think a possible solution would be to use Tailscale, however I still need to try it. More info: https://help.roonlabs.com/portal/en/kb/articles/arc-and-tailscale-connect-to-roonserver-without-port-forwarding

Is there anybody else who has experienced this and used Tailscale before?

Shoot, I overlooked the 5G router in your problem description, sorry. Yeah, this will be the problem and Tailscale the likely solution. As far as I know, this is now officially supported for ARC. (I have no experience)

@Santos_Fernandez_Nog, I recommended Tailscale to this user also using a 5G router and Tailscale worked for them:

I managed to make Arc work using Tailscale!

I have to say the documentation helps, but I think Roon should do this much easier for users. It took me three days to figure it out. Is there any plan to provide an easy setup for Arc trying to connect a ROCK behind a 5G router?

Thank you both.

@Santos_Fernandez_Nog, glad you are running with ARC! If using a RoonOS server (Nucleus family or ROCK), you have to have a Windows, Macintosh, Linux, or Apple tvOS computer running as a Tailscale bridge as described here by Tailscale:

Yes, I have Rock running in a NUC.

I have installed Tailscale on my Apple TV and Android phone where Arc is installed.

I haven’t installed Tailscale on my Windows laptop as I wouldn’t like to leave it runnning 24/7. Apple TV does that job even when it’s in idle mode. It seems Tailscale works with Google Chromecast with Google TV, although the app doesn’t have the subnet option yet.

I was a bit intimidated with setting up Tailscale at first but it was relatively easy to do it. As I said on my previous post, I think Roon could work in finding a way to make this process easier for users using a 5G router.

Thank you all for your help!
