Khadas Tone2 Pro

Thanks for the observation, Curtis. I don’t think it matters much, as the jumpers can be placed on the correct pin. It’s not a fixed plug.

Completely understood. It just means a bit more of an understanding to what you are doing(and what you need) when setting it up.

Just got a response and they will shoot a video for the firmware upgrade. Should be available next week.

Im happy that it will be solved for you guys! Still waiting for shipping notes on my T2Pro from Hifigo

Hi,

I saw that the new firmware came out yesterday but I can’t find a changelog… do you have any news about the new features?

thanks

So, it’s all documented. Here’s the link.

I’ll post before and after measurements later this week. I’m hoping that the selectable filters actually work after this update.

I’ll happily wait and see what your findings are.

@David_Snyder did your ST-LINK tool come with the proper connector for the Tone2 Pro?

From watching the video and looking at the links to the Amazon tools, I don’t see the piece that connects to the three holes on the Tone2.

Check online at Amazon or another shop for “jumper wire male female” and you’ll have your answer.

@E_H Thanks. It would be nice if Khadas documented this.

Hey again! Finally got my Khadas Tone 2 pro today:) But i need some help! How do i set ut up with Roon? I can find two KT2P in Roon. One with Asio and one with WASAPI. Which to choose?

Wheen choosing ASIO, it says in the volumecontrol setting: DSP volume, fixed volume or WASAPI volume? Cant understand that.

Can i see your guys setting?

Nope. I had to order some. Should arrive this afternoon.

Kind-of mad at myself for waiting until yesterday to open the ST-Link V2 package.

Update: I completed the firmware update this evening. Everything went swimmingly. It’s too late to cross-post, so please feel free to read about my before/after tests on the Khadas forum. Here’s a link: Tone2 Pro - Firmware v1.2 + MCU Update - #42 by dsnyder0cnn - Audio - Khadas Community

Hi David, what speakers are those? I recognise the midbass driver - it’s the Scan-speak 18W/8531G00 or 18W/4531G00 sliced paper Revelator (Yes, I’m a bit of a geek )

Haha. Yes, indeed, you are. Those are Fritz Carrera 7 BE monitors. Mine are a slightly older version with a somewhat fancier beryllium tweeter than the one described here.

My DIY Zaph Audio ZRTs use the 18W8531G00 with the D3004/660000 Air-Circ Illuminator tweeter in a ~23 litre sealed box. It currently stands as the best sounding 2-way I’ve ever heard. The 18W is a very special driver indeed. I first built them into a bottom ported floorstander and I had to choke the ports as the bass extension was too much!

Finally getting a chance to do a bit of listening after upgrading the MCU and XMOS firmware last night. The firmware developer at Khadas has addressed most of the issues I raised earlier this year. The $199 Khadas Tone2 Pro DAC/Amp is now, in my semi-professional opinion, ridiculously good.

Here’s a link to one of my posts on ASR for more details:

Thank you for sharing all the info, I too got the Tone2 pro this week and it sounds great. The latest batch they are selling now (3rd batch) and the one I got, already contains the new firmware (v1.2) along with the ability to directly update the MCU through USB out of the box.

I have a question regarding volume control. I am new to Roon and all this, and it seems that Roon does not show volume control with the Tone2 and sets it to fixed volume. The settings I tried was “Device Volume” which I believe sets it through the device but Roon shows it as fixed volume. The reason why I ask is, I have the older Tone board (Version 1) and I was able to control volume through Roon with the “device volume” setting. I think Tone2 contains most of the same chipset as the ToneBoard.

Is there anything I can do to control the volume of Tone2 through Roon other than DSP volume? I run the Tone2 through RoPieee, and does anyone know if fiddling with some config on RoPieee would enable Hardware volume through Roon?

Both MCU and XMOS Firmware update went really well. Glad with the solution that Khadas came up with.
