What a voice
Her singing voice and her speaking voice sound so different. You can hear it well on the live recording. Amazing album.
60 to 65 is my normal listening level, but music from bands like Atreyu really does sound so much better with the volume cranked up
Just came home from an enjoyable night with friends; I was the designated driver - so first beer for Saturday night on Sunday morning…
I have a lot of them in my collection…
from her website:
Beneath is an exciting new release from Hannah Barstow, a Toronto-based pianist and vocalist with a distinct artistic voice, both as a composer and a performer. Featuring saxophonist Mike Murley, bassist Reknee Irene Harrett and drummer Keith Barstow, the album contains haunting performances of Hannah’s original songs and arrangements. The motivic melodies, intricate harmonies and intimate lyrics are reminiscent of Jobim compositions, among other jazz standards, but with a modern perspective. Hannah’s unique technique of intertwining the piano and her voice, both in her melodies and during improvisation, is a fresh sound that adds depth to the performances.
Still thinking about adding that vinyl to join the digital purchase
Arthur Russell
World of Echo (1986)
Since his death - there’s been quite a number of posthumous releases, where he has gained greater notoriety. Tough to categorise his music. This is somewhat minimal electronics with vocals.
I don’t play this much, actually I can’t even recall playing it. However, Felt are one of my all time fav ‘post punk’ bands. It’s more about the selection of tracks here, not to mention I have all of their albums. In my case however, I’m much more of a fan of their earlier work with Maurice Deebank as lead guitarist.
Newcomers looking for their first Felt album should start here, with the knowledge that there is quite a bit of dark atmosphere layered over the pop charms within. (allmusic)
Yes - most likely true!

Absolute Classic Masterpieces (1992)
Felt has been posted a bit here…for those that do not know them…
This was their closest track to a hit single:
Primitive Painters
(Backing vocals - Elizabeth Fraser - Cocteau Twins)
The 8+ minute track that highlights Maurice’s delicate & sublime guitar work.
