Description of Issue

All of a sudden my Roon Core is missing. My core is running on a Nucleus (and has been for some time.) I’m not able to locate it through either the desktop app or through the Roon Remote on my iPad.

Sounds like a hardware failure. But I would start by shutting everything down including your router. Then restart everything beginning with the router and ending with the Nucleus. If it still doesn’t show on the network you have to start eliminating cables, etc.

I did the hard reset. Still no luck finding the Nucleus. I tried disconnecting power to the unit and also the switch. A couple of observations:

  1. Before connecting power, connect one end of an Ethernet cable (not included) to the LAN port on the back panel of the Nucleus. Connect the other end to your ethernet router or switch.

  2. Next, connect the power supply to Nucleus and plug the power supply into the wall. At this point, even though you have not turned on the Nucleus, a green LED (which may be blinking randomly) will be illuminated on the Ethernet port.

The Ethernet port was blinking green.

  1. Finally, power up the Nucleus by pressing the power button on the back of the unit. Just one quick press is all that is needed, and a dim white LED should light up immediately above the button.

I did not notice an LED above the power button. The Nucleus sits in an equipment rack and shares a power conditioner with the rest of the components. I was wondering if that was causing a loss of power, so I connected the Nucleus directly to a wall outlet and still no sign of power. Is the power button supposed to “click” or something.

Can you connect the Nucleus to a monitor using one of the Nucleus’ HDMI ports and describe or post a screenshot of what is shown on the monitor?

I’m not getting anything on screen. Plus, no indicator light above the power switch.

@Richard_Cheever, there may be a hardware as @David_Gibson noted. I have re-categorized this to the Nucleus support category and am tagging @support for assistance.

How old is your Nucleus, and did you purchase it from a dealer or from Roon directly?

Less than four years old. Aug 2019 to be precise. Bought it from a dealer – don’t recall if Roon had the Roonstore at the time.

It is out of warranty. Roon will respond as they get through their support queue. Personally, I wonder if it makes sense speaking with your dealer also, even though it is out of warranty, about the RMA process in case it is a failed unit (or it could be a failed drive which is easier to replace).

In the meantime, if you have a recent backup, is there another computer you could use as a temporary Core?

Hey @Richard_Cheever,

Ben with the support team here! I wanted to follow up on this thread to get a status update. How are things running on your end? Were you able to get in touch with your dealer?

I’ll be monitoring this thread for your reply. :+1:

Ben,

Thanks. Dealer wasn’t any help since it was out of warranty. I contacted Roon directly and received an RMA and the unit is on its way. According to FedEx, should be there tomorrow.
