Lumin supports 24-bit Spotify Lossless

Thanks @wklie :+1:

Ah so resampling will kill Spotify Lossless….bummer

Resampling will not kill Spotify Lossless.

However, since the question was asking about bit-perfect (i.e. whether Lumin is digitally manipulating the music signal unbeknownst to the user), resampling will by definition kill bit perfectness after getting Spotify Lossless as a lossless stream.

Have your account got Spotify Lossless?

I tested this on a T2 and am not able to reproduce what you described. I turned on Lumin Re-sampling. I tested:

  • Tidal Connect → Spotify Connect
  • Lumin app Tidal → Spotify Connect
  • Qobuz Connect → Spotify Connect

In all scenarios, I checked that the settings remain unchanged. The front panel also shows proper DSD upsampling.

There is a slight possibility for Lumin app to not be reflecting the setting correctly due to WiFi issues. Please update Lumin app to the latest. If already running the latest version, please bring up the mobile OS task list, kill / force stop / swipe away the Lumin app, and relaunch it.

I am also having the re-sampling issue with Spotify lossless to my Lumin D1. I have reinstalled Lumin App on my iPhone 12 and IPad Pro. I tested without Roon involved. These are the info :

iPhone 12
iOS 26.0.1
Spotify 9.0.86.1354
Lumin App 12.1.0
Lumin D1 Firmware 12.1.0

iPad Pro
iOS 17.7.10
Spotify 9.0.84.1339
Lumin App 12.1.0
Lumin D1 Firmware 12.1.0

When streaming Tidal, it can do re-sampling from PCM to DSD for songs with 44.1khz/16bit but when streaming Spotify, it stays as De-emphasis without re-sampling for songs with 44.1khz/16bit.

Correction : Lumin D1 Firmware should be 21.0

Old models D1 D2 S1 A1 T1 cannot do Spotify Connect resampling to DSD.

Newer models D3 T2 T3 X1 P-series U-series can.

Please turn off De-emphasis unless you are sure you need it.

Thanks for the clarification.

Does this mean that these models will do Spotify lossless but not combined with resampling then? If so that really is a great achievement :money_mouth_face:

On these old models Spotify Lossless will play as bit perfect (if volume is 100 and Spotify Audio Normalization is disabled), ignoring user configuration of DSD resampling.

Since there are known limitations of Spotify Lossless on Windows and Android not being bit perfect (due to OS mixer and lack of WASAPI on Windows), I just tried to prove Spotify Lossless on Lumin is bit perfect:

Playing MQA albums on Spotify, with Lumin USB output to a third party MQA DAC, the DAC recognizes shows MQA indication. So this proves Lumin Spotify Lossless is bit perfect.

I need to find a proper cable to do a test from iPad to USB DAC.

(Due to how Spotify Connect and Qobuz Connect work, Lumin itself does not decode MQA albums from these two sources, so this experiment has to use a third party Full MQA Decoder DAC.)

Could you please list some :+1:

Spotify Lossless from iPad USB-C to USB DAC is also bit perfect after turning off Crossfade, Automix, Audio Normalization, Mono Audio, Equalizer.

Some MQA albums:
Mozart Violin Concertos (Mqa Remix 2016)
Fairytales (Original Master Edition (MQA))

Thank you Peter for this :+1:

I can confirm I get MQA playback as well.

Hi Peter. Still getting issues - predominantly with Spotify when one stops playing the unit fails to go into standby (red led) on P1 mini.

The tab off is on and it appears the usb does drop the voltage as the amps turn off with the trigger cable.

Here is an about screen shot but soon as I access the p1 it wakes up and the amps come on so not sure if this is relevant now

Thanks for your action and reply!

Yes I use a T2.
I cannot reproduce it again myself as well, so problem seems to be solved. I had to change settings 3 times before I posted my question.
Think all was up to date since that required the Spotify lossless to work .
Thanks for the support.

Please list the exact steps how you “stop” Spotify, e.g. switch the device from P1 to phone? Pause without switching device? Press the standby button on physical remote? Using the standby function on the Lumin app? Let a Spotify playlist complete without Auto Play? There may be other ways too.

Have you got Spotify Lossless yet?

That’s most likely an app display issue. The next time you see it please bring up the iOS task list, swipe Lumin app away. Or on Android Force Stop Lumin app.

That makes sense, thanks.

Lossless yes all good now

Hard to pin it down as I’m not the Spotify user in the house but I think it’s when the music just stops like it’s transferred to another device the red light never comes on to show standby but the display is blank and the usb off is in effect
