Marantz Cinema 70S fails to power on during music playback initiation (ref#04F3A8)

Hi! What’s not quite right with Roon?

· Marantz Cinema 70S does not turn on anymore when starting to play music

When I used to start to play a song on my Marantz Cinema 70S, the receiver turned on and Roon waited until it was fully turned out before starting to play the track.

Now the receiver won’t be turned on, and Roon says it is playing the track, even when the receiver is still turned off.

There was a firmware update last week and it may be that some of your settings have somehow changed - try this which I found helpful:

If your Marantz Cinema 70s is no longer waking up or turning on automatically when you start playing music from Roon, it is almost always caused by the receiver’s Network Control setting reverting to its default power-saving mode. When this happens, the receiver completely shuts down its network card during standby to save electricity, making it invisible to Roon. [1, 2]

  1. Fix the Network Standby Setting

To fix this, you must change the network configuration so the network interface stays powered on when the receiver is turned off: [1, 2]

  1. Grab your Marantz remote and press the Setup button.
  2. Navigate to Network > Network Control.
  3. Change the setting from Off In Standby to Always On. [1, 2, 3]

Note: This allows the Roon Server to ping and wake up your Cinema 70s over your home network, though it will slightly increase standby power consumption. [1, 2]

  1. Verify the Roon Ready Toggle

Recent Marantz firmware updates introduced a dedicated toggle that can occasionally get switched off during a system update. [1]

  1. Open the Marantz Setup menu.

  2. Select Network > Roon Ready.

  3. Ensure this is explicitly set to On. [1, 2, 3]

  4. Clear Network Communication “Hiccups”

If the settings above are correct but the issue persists, the Roon Core and the Marantz handshake may be out of sync. Try a sequential network power cycle: [1]

  1. Completely power down your Marantz Cinema 70s and unplug its power cable from the wall.
  2. Reboot your Roon Server/Core device.
  3. Plug the Marantz back into power and turn it on.
  4. Open your Roon App > Settings > Audio to verify if the Marantz Cinema 70s appears normally as a “Roon Ready” zone. [1, 2, 4, 5]

If the receiver still does not wake up, let me know if your Marantz is connected via Wi-Fi or Ethernet, and if it responds to the HEOS app while turned off.

Thanks for writing in @Andras_Toth, let us know if @peter_richardson’s above steps help! :+1:

Hi @Andras_Toth,

Wanted to follow up on this. Were you able to try the steps Peter shared above and see whether they changed the behavior? If you ran into anything unexpected while going through them, send us the details and we can take another look.

Please note, if we don’t hear back from you this thread may close automatically soon. If the thread auto-closes and you need further assistance, please submit a reopen support request via the technical support help form below and specify that the issue should be reopened. Thank you.

Sorry for the belated response. It seems that the issue has solved itself. I believe it has something to do with that I have used the Marantz app to turn all zone stereo on before the issue occurred which I haven’t done before.

Anyways the receiver is turning on again automatically when I start to play something in Roon.

Hello @Andras_Toth

We will close this here. If it comes back, please open a new thread with a link to this one, and note the date and time it happens so we can look at that moment directly.
