Why does your device show its using raat?
As mentioned and repeated
Edit: I must say, I find it quite surprising that this is being done in a âproductionâ environment where all users are confronted with this. Does Roon not have a decent development and test environment?
I must say I found it surprising as well - most devices seem to be kept well under wraps in testing until certification is complete.
I suspect (but itâs a guess) is that the latest general release of HEOS by Marantz/Denon opened the door inadvertently.
This presence of RAAT SDK, as I explained before, is present in the manufacturer firmware (for manufacturer internal testing). AFAIK, this cannot be controlled by Roon Labs technically with current means.
Since users cannot use the uncertified Roon Ready function anyway, the manufacturer must have determined its (unusable) presence does not impact other normal functionalities. Whether it complies with Roon Labs guidelines / requirements, it is up to Roon Labs to decide.
The odd thing is all if these devices get booted from the âroon testedâ list. I get that they still work as airplay devices as they did before. Just seems weird that this âproduct wide testâ would make that shift. Also why would such a huge company push basically incomplete fw to all of itâs customers. They would be better off adding raat to their test mules internally. This all seems fishy to me.
On a side note, I have a matrix audio device that also shows uncertified. But matrix admits they are actively working on certification. My guess is they purposely install raat in their fw as proof to new buyers.
I agree it seems odd to push out to production so early if thatâs the case, I imagine itâs caused a lot more support calls on both sides. The guy from Massimo on Audioholics skated around the comments on Roon when asked.

I suspect that they are working on it but this guy was cagey throughout the interview, not just about Roon.
No there wonât be from Roon until itâs passed certification. Whic can take months to years and Roon has a large backlog of products to get through We donât even now if they are fully pursuing it as Massimo have said nothing at all. Likely when if it happens there will be a big press release from Massimo and Roon.
I wish Harmon would go whole hog and buy Marantz/Denon. That would certainly but an end to the problem.
I wish the Roon team would have some faster internal processes for certification in general. It gets boring and annoying. Should one buy Marantz or Denon? Should one not? Why such a big teaser ? Life time is valuable.
After a long period of maintenance updates only it is time for some exciting news in my opinion.
This process isnât just Roon you know itâs the manufacturer as well. Denon/Marantz have made not announcements at all about this process to say if they are in certification or not. Just because it appears on a device doesnât mean itâs even ready for the process to start they might just be testing the waters. When it does nothing passes first time so itâs back and forth for a while they sort out firmware this is at the behest of them and their teams which I am sure for a full product line isnât a simple task on top of other development they are doing. No one wants poor integration Roon test for a lot of things to ensure it works they same as any other Roon Ready device. Co you know how long Airplay or Chromecast take to get their certification? Likely as long but as these are musts for devices to launch with they are prioritised.
Any News?
Have in mind to buy the new Marantz Model 50n CD and streamer.
No news from Marantz.
Not sure how valid this is, but this was posted yesterday on AVS Forum in the Marantz AV10 thread:
"Some info from avclub.gr
The New U33 firmware and HEOS update, will bring Roon Ready certification as well as Tidal Hi-Res (at the Hi-Fi plus tier)."
No ETA given for U33.
April most likely they do quarterly updates I believe.
just sold off the last of my marantz stuff lol. It would have been cool to see how well roon ready worked with them.

Higher than 192/24 for PCM is expected given Heos only does 192.24, but no mention of DSD as Heos supports it up to DSD128 on Marantz gear. Not that I use it as dont have any files but some might be miffed if thats not supported. No surprise about Multichannel either as Heos doesnt support that how could Roon.
