Metadata support for DJ Mixes from mixesdb.com

Dance music (for want of a better term), at least outside of commercial, mainstream releases, has never been Roon’s strength.

Likewise support for non-traditional formats such as DJ mixes, archived radio shows and to a large extent small press EPs and singles, only ever released on vinyl (where a lot of that genre is to be found) is also extremely poor.

I know there has been previous talk and existing requests opened for Discogs and Bandcamp integration, both of which would help here. The former in particularly would fill a big chunk of the metadata void for obscure EP releases and vinyl only rips.

But one more for the list is MixesDB - The Database for Mixes

The ability to match an imported mix to an entry in mixesdb.com (much like manually matching an album works currently) and then pulling across the metadata (and ideally tracklists; also linked) into Roon would be a game changer for anyone who has a lot of DJ mixes and old radio shows in their library.

At the end of the day, music music regardless of format, in a perfect world Roon would be able to extend beyond the limits of the traditional mainstream music industry catalogues and formats — which the streaming platforms own (free) apps are now managing to deal with quite well now, at least much better than they did when Roon launched.

Better support in the areas Spotify/Qobuz/Tidal aren’t interested in could be a key to Roon’s long term survival, as a high-end platform aimed at music lovers who want to extend past the commercial streaming catalogues.
