EXCEPT, I can’t play through multiple zones simultaneously… yet.
My current setup:
I have a M2 Mac mini as my Roon Server, hooked up to my DAC (HoloAudio Spring 2 Level 3 Kitsuné edition) via USB directly.
I am wondering how do I keep my main setup above at the highest resolution possible, while playing to another room with as high resolution possible?
I have another Mac mini (an intel from 2014) and another USB DAC (Musical Paradise). Could I hook that up with Roon somehow and playback from both Mini’s at full resolution simultaneously?
To be clear, by simultaneously, I mean the same music at the same time with no syncing issues…
Yes you need to install Roon bridge software on the other Mac not your server and add it as a Zone. Then group the two Zones together. You may need to play with zone delay to get them in perfect sync as each dac will have slightly different clocks.
So if I have my second Mac mini with Roon bridge, an a different USB DAC directly connected to it, I can play the same music at the same type all synced up from my Roon Server on my main system?
That would be great.
And also, can I tie in my office Mac to play synced up music as well? I would need Roon Bridge instead of the Roon app that allows me to control the Room Server?
Yes to both but it does rely on a solid network. Roon is fully uncompressed PCM that it sends out so this is more demanding on networks. You need Roon server running on one and this needs access to your music , preferably locally attached. The others need bridge to make them zones, you need remote to control it all. Remote can be on phone, iPad or Mac. You can just install Roon on all of them if you wish so all Macs can also be a controller but just enable server on one.
You need Roon app for control. You don’t need bridge if you install Roon app as it’s part of it. So if you want control and a music zone then just install Roon and when it asks say connect to existing server you connect to that. Bridge you only need for zones you don’t want run the controller gui on or it’s running headless.
