Did you test this or just guessing? This was never how it worked. Roon counts as one client and you can stream to several zones concurrently with a regular, non-family Tidal account.
I added my wife to my account. We both use tidal. Is there a way for us to use separate logins into Tidal and not see each other’s playlists? For instance, if she is on her iPad and logs into my Roon account shouldn’t she be able to select her profile and log into her Tidal and only see her playlists. And vice versa for me?
Hi @Jerry_Hereden,
Unfortunately not, but you’re alone with this.
I’ve merged your post into this Feature Suggestions topic.
If you wish you can vote for this feature at the top of the topic.
The lack of this feature is a potential deal breaker for me. Coming from Sonos I assumed this the be a matter of course for a system like Roon. Needs to be fixed asap!!!

I’m not sure how Tidal behaves if you try to stream it simultaneously via two Roon profiles. However there is another scenario, that’s a result of poor profile implementation and is really annoying.
If anybody streams Tidal via Roon and you try to use Tidal from Tidal app - those operations conflict and stop playback on the other device.
For me that happens regularly when I’m out of home with TIdal app and somebody at home launches Roon.
So I share your disappointment with the way profiles were designed in Roon.
TBH this lacking feature makes the value proposition of a Roon subscription a non starter for me with 4 avid music listeners using Tidal on one plan in the household.
In other words, for me this is a must have (not a nice to have) as described in the original post.
Watching this thread in the hopes that this feature is coming soon but for now I’ll hold off on the subscription. But I won’t hold my breath. Sad to see the original request dates from 6 years ago.
I just signed up for a trial, but it looks like I’ll be canceling at the end of the period. This is a dealbreaker for me. Too bad, I like what I see otherwise, but if I’m the only one in the family who can use it, it isn’t useful for me.
I’m really surprised to see its not possible for me and my wife to use roon together with each of our tidal profiles on a family subscription.
As many others in this thread states, this is a need to have, and not a nice to have. As me and my wife ofcourse don’t have identical tastes in music, we don’t want to be forced into using the same playlists/favourite artists/albums/songs etc.
In all honesty i’m suprised this isnt the first thing someone tell about roon when they endorse it. Like “hey roon is really good at what it does, but it has this glaring problem for anyone with an actual family, that they want to use roon together with!”.
I now voted for this feature, and will cancel my trial on my way out, what a shame, i really liked my trial of roon, until I wanted to introduce it to my wife, and couldnt get her tidal added.
Is this still an outstanding feature request? I just started down the Roon / Tidal route assuming that since both support profiles, I’d be able to use my Roon & Tidal profile and my wife would be able to use hers. But it sounds like that’s not possible?
Unfortunately Roon is still limited to one Tidal account. Let´s hope it is on the roadmap with a release rather sooner than later.
Yep, same situation here. After dropping it for a while I came back to roon for another trial. For such an advanced music platform I am in disbelief that this is still missing. It really is a show stopper for anyone with a family setup. Let’s say my daughter favourites and adds a bunch of Tidal albums to the library. These will then be reflected in my personal Tidal account which of course will totally influence the view and suggestions I get in my Tidal app. Anyone with teenage kids will be abundantly clear that this is totally unacceptable!
What’s also shockingly bad, but perhaps not too surprising, is that I haven’t seen a single review of roon out there that mentions this gaping hole in functionality!

I am trying to setup Roon for me and my GF. is there a way to use Tidal and Roon together. I understand there are multiple users inside Roon, but how does a new playlist in Roon, affect the playlists in Tidal?
In Roon you can log in to Tidal (From Roon → Settings → Services) with just one set of user credentials - no matter how many user profies you set up in Roon.
If you ‘add’ a track or an album in Roon, then that will ‘favorite’ that album or track in the Tidal account that is used to log into Tidal from within Roon. Similarly, if you use the Tidal app logged in with the credentials that you have provided to Roon to favorite a track or album, then this will be added to the Roon library and be visible under all user profiles. This is often not what new users expect but it is apparently very difficult (impossible?) to log into Tidal with multiple accounts from the same application.
With respect to playlists, I’m not the best person to help since I don’t, as a rulethe situation is more nuanced.
A playlist created in the Tidal app will appear in Roon - no matter which profile is being used. However, it can be moved to a profile specific folder (or any other organisational folder). If necessary, it can also be copied to make a Roon specific playlist which would allow the original Tidal playlist to be deleted.
A playlist created in Roon, even one listing Tidal tracks can be private to Roon (and loosely associated with a profile - there is a folder for each user profile for playlists). I believe such a playlist can be ‘synced’ with Tidal so that it becomes visible in the Tidal App. However, I don’t know how this process handles local library content included in the playlist. As I said earlier, this is not a feature that I use.
Just adding my voice (and vote) to this. I was about ready to pull the trigger and sign up for Roon, but the inability to associate each Roon user with their own Tidal account is a dealbreaker for me.
My wife and I both use Tidal on a family plan. If we can’t each access our unique Tidal libraries that we’ve curated over a decade plus of using streaming services, there’s just no way to make this work for us. My wife adding an album to her Roon library resulting in that album appearing in my own Tidal library is a downright bad UX/architecture decision. I’m just not willing to sacrifice the meticulous organization of our primary streaming accounts to give Roon a try.
Here’s hoping this feature gets prioritized so that we can make the move. I’d really love to take it for a spin!
I’m trying Roon for a few days and I was really happy with it until I tried to push the rest of the family into it. And without multiple Qobuz accounts there is no more interest into Roon. Period. My wife impressed at first sight finished to say that my solution is half baked, as she want to keep her music separately.
So is it a complete technical impossibility or a lack of interest from the developers?
If the latter, I don’t understand how the authors of an app willing to manage the dozens of audio devices in a mansion believe there is only one person living inside, or that everyone is listening to the same music.
And by the lack of answers from the dev team, I’m afraid to guess it’s the latter.
If you have dozens of audio devices in a mansion, surely you can afford to buy her her own subscription to Roon.
With due respect, this is not a very minimalistic approach
Same here - we have a Family Plan in Qobuz, my daughter is hearing children audio books the whole day, I don’t want to mixed that with my account.
So she has to stay in Qobuz with her account, which is a little bit sad, if she want to listening our music.
