Hello to all.
Have any of you had any experience with the brand new Naim Focal Muso Utopia? The technology seems impressive, the Utopia pedigree impeccable. Two concerns, however: it does not seem to be Roon ready so far. Also, will it play music (classical, hi end level in a small room of appr. 13 sq. meters?
Any thoughts highly welcome.
I contacted Naim and they said they have no plans to make it roon ready. I also dont believe what customer service said.
I’m confident this will be certified and I wont be making a purchase until it is.
All other Naim gear is Roon Ready but the recent Focal/Naim bars appeared without it. The same happened with the Mu-so Hekla but it seems they started certification later.
But never buy any gear in the hope that it will become RR. It may or it may not. And tell them that you will buy only if they certify.
It won’t have a problem with a 13 sqm room but they are always an acoustical challenge and you will end up using DSP and/or some treatment if you are serious about the sound. But that’s true for everyone.
Whether this is “high-end level” is a matter of expectations. I like the Mu-sos and am always surprised by how good they are, but they are still sound bars and don’t represent literally the high end of what’s possible
Thank you for the swift reply. Will wait and see because Roon is essential to me. Right now I am with the Cabasse Pearl Akoya, which are Roon ready. And by the way, they are very satisfactory in terms of sound, and at roughly the same price range as the Muso Utopia.
Naim said they had no plans to make the CI-102 Roon ready, but now it is, so it’s possible they could decide to do it, and almost certainly technically possible. I suggest you make a request to Naim and to your dealer; if they see demand for it they are more likely to do it.
I wonder what’s going on there in the new corporate overlord HQ. Not being RR for the type of multiroom device the CI is, seems crazy. In particular when their other streamers all are. Looks like they have ideas about establishing their own Naim multiroom as an island. This will fail.
