Never finishes analyzing

I have see multiple posts about this over the last few years and they all seem to be closed without a solution. It has been happening on my system for a couple of years and otherwise the system is working fine. But I finally decided to post. The number changes sometimes 4/5, 18/19, 21/22 - but there is always one left with the spinner that never finishes. How can this be fixed?

That is a known issue that has no well known cause.

You can turn off background audio analysis and turn it back on to solve it temporarily (until next scan), or reboot.

In my experience, it seems to be caused by updating albums that have already been analyzed by Roon and then it gets a little confused during a rescan.

I had this too for a long time, @Ed_Wegryn. More than once. The total number and the number at which it stopped both charged. But I could not get them reliably to complete.

I got used to the workarounds which @DDPS outlines.

Also restarting the Roon server.

In the end - at the direction of Roon support - I re-imported a corrupt track which they detected.

And have never looked back

Reluctant though you may be to put this down to a track which - for whatever reason - Roon can’t consistently process, I strongly suggest that’s a worthwhile path to follow. Good luck!

If you’re on a Mac, or have access to one that can hook to your music files drive, there is a free utility that will crawl though all of your tracks and find any that are corrupted. It’s relatively quick, too. Audio File Health Check by 2Many Robots.

It does not seem to impact things so rather not take drastic action trying to stop it. How did you find out which track it does not like?
And as the leader of a software team, just a little frustrating to have something like this not fixed for so long. Thanks for your replies.

Hello @Ed_Wegryn ,

Thanks for reaching out. Can you please try to restart your Roon Server a few times in a row, let it run for a few minutes then restart it again (you can quit RoonServer in the bottom task bar). We’ve enabled diagnostics for your account and after a few restarts, the affected file will hopefully be visible in logging. Thanks!

3 shutdowns with 2 mins of running in between. If it is just some file it doesn’t like, seems like 1) showing it in the UI would let me deal with it 2) marking it as skipped at some point so you don’t keep trying?

Hello @Ed_Wegryn,

According to the latest diagnostic data, I haven’t seen any analysis activity since May 30. Could you kindly confirm whether the issue still persists on your end?

Screen shot from just now:

Is there a log I can check locally since it still thinks it is doing something on this end.

Hi @Ed_Wegryn ,

Thanks for confirming. I looked over your logs, and it looks like this was the file that Roon got stuck on analyzing:
E:\SharedDocuments\Music\Movies-Plays-TV\Master and Commander -The Far Side of the World (2003 OST)\Master and commander - 14 - Boccherini La musica notturna de.mp3

Can you try to move this file to somewhere Roon is not watching, restart RoonServer and check to see if that resolves the issue? Note, if this is the offending file, please let us know as we would kindly like to request it for QA purposes to try to reproduce the issue on our end.

Hi @Ed_Wegryn,

Yes, all of your logs are stored locally on your Roon Server. You can follow the steps in this article to locate them. Let us know if you need help accessing the files!

Yes - that fixed the problem! Happy to send you the file. How do you want me to do that? If it matters, in looking for it I noticed I have a dup in a folder right next to its folder.

Hi @Ed_Wegryn ,

Glad to hear that we were able to correctly identify the offending file! To send it to us, please upload it to the below link and let us know once uploaded, after we will mark your case as solved. Thanks again for your patience as we located the file!
