No worries, Winders, i was just trying to calm any flame war about new vs old. imho it’s all music whenever it’s been made
It took me a couple of times coming back to Alt-j’s first album before I got it. But once I did, I couldn’t get enough. All three of their releases are brilliant! Be sure to give a couple of goes, like I did, if they don’t stick at first. They’re doing what Pink Floyd did back in the day but using modern tools and styles, such a looping and sound bites.
Here’s one for fans of Sade. Silky vocals and classic R&B with a touch of modern making it a creatively unique record. She takes old 80’s R&B hits and makes them her own. I picked up the 24bit version.
If it turns out you’re digging Meshell, check out this record from English band Woman’s Hour. It has a similar aesthetic as well as being beautifully done!!
Haha! I hear ya! I’ve spent $1000’s at Bandcamp over the years. I love that site.
Thanks for the reminder. Got into Alt-j perhaps 2 or 3 years ago? Slipped by me in between. Good music!
@anon74822662 sorry if I took over your thread with all my post. I can’t help myself. I hope others get as excited as I do with new music suggestions. I invest in several hours a month seeking new music. It’s never been easier to discover and access new tunes.
Fill your boots m8. Im all for it. Just listening to Nara from Alt J , thanks to you. Great! I’d only heard the first album in fact. Catching up. Intense! Keep em coming…
Wow that Nara track is something else. Overwhelming
I love Arrival In Nara which blends into Nara with the sounds of a fly buzzing around. Intense, beautiful and timeless. Whenever I put on an Alt-j album, I never stop with just one listen. Just too damn good.
If you enjoy being open-minded when it comes to exploring new sounds in music, then this bit of funk, leaning on the chill side, loads of groove, and plenty of psychedelic, will sure to please. Be sure to check out both of his albums including his side project with Sam Dust, Soft Hair.
You gotta get out there on the live circuit. The time IS now but you won’t find it on popular media. It really is underground.
Check out Lilly Hiatt daughter of John Hiatt. She has recently been supporting The Drive By Truckers in The states.
And there is plenty more where she came from.
We saw Pokey last year in London and it was a sensation. His Music is from the 30’s 40’s but he has the stage presence of James Brown in his prime. And the band… wow, what a band
If you like this, you’ll love him live.
…and look at that. He has 24bit downloads at 7digital. Thanks for the tip!
Just been reading this interview with Mr LaFarge. Fascinating…

I could go on. And I do: I have an Instagram account dedicated to music discovery. Check it out, if you’re so inclined. https://www.instagram.com/scattered_gang/
These are some recent discoveries of mine - all are also rather new releases:
The second part of the third one offers an interesting take on Ravel, too. So it’s not just Jazz.
Great interview. There is a lot to learn there, especially about great musicianship.
This is eminently enjoyable. Very catchy melodies, interesting lyrically; in some places quite moving. If you can you get over the guy’s voice - nothing wrong with it. He’s in tune and has a good voice in fact, just he sounds about 14?
Haha, just read the rest of the review by allmusic (i guess), “he has a chirp of a voice, akin to an elf who has stayed up smoking and drinking” , lol!
If the first few bars don’t move you then switch this off immediately
