New Roon Server mode is Slow

Well a banner that said ‘there are general complaints and we are looking into it’ would suppress the creation of support requests that often end up being the key thing that ends up pointing us to where the real issue lies (or they could be a separate issue).

Complaints are the first step towards improvement. In software improvement comes in relatively unpredictable bursts. We communicate improvements - they will come in relatively unpredictable bursts. Complaints are a necessary part of the process and the next step is unfortunately ‘we are investigating and will, eventually, find and fix the problem’.

Informatively the root cause issue in this thread has existed for almost a year and we had an internal ticket to look into it, but it was low priority as it had no customer facing impacts. Take from that what you will.

As of 12/7/2023 Roon STILL launches and loads the home page slow. Displays the album chosen slowly etc. Same “complaints” as others. ‘Twas a recent upgrade that killed performance, even though things were touted would be faster after the upgrade.

Sometimes it is unusable to the point that I just stop using Roon. This is going on for some time and it is obviously Roon server side problem, but they are unable to solve it. Maybe we should just start asking for refund and move to better service? Any timeline when this will be finally resolved? I am using Roon for many years now and possibilities of this type of neglect is what always kept me from getting lifetime membership. Reading Roon reply: “…it was low priority as it had no customer facing impacts” is not ensuring.

:weary::sweat_smile::joy:Me Too:sob:

It’s not “obviously” a server-side issue, in that many of us are not experiencing this issue, at all.

I understand the frustration, but let’s not make “obviously” false statements.

Same here. Terribly slow reactions and loading time of albums to play…

Man, I think they are “listening” on us
I have problems for months, as I have described. Today, after all that sluggishness and after that post last night - ROON is flying today! Don’t know what happened. Like that someone opend a tap for me. When I said “obvious”, I was reffering to their own claims that there are resources allocation problems in the backend, but that they are working to fix it. It was also that the issue was, for us in Europe, more evident in late evening hours when US was more online as it is midday there.

Not sure what you did to have it “flying again” Mario, but please share any secrets you may have.

Roon has been a wonderful experience and my “go to streamer” for the past three years. That all came to a crashing halt about 2 weeks ago, coincidentally right around the time they announced that they were acquired. Perhaps they moved some things onto new servers?

Who knows? All I know is that with a Nucleus as my Core, I never have had issues with slow performance. Now, we’re advised that you can use the same machine as a Server and endpoint (I don’t do that), and the system has started to crawl.

Hopefully, they’ll figure it out soon enough!

If using a single computer as the Core and UI, this was always the recommended and better configuration, but you had to install Roon Server manually in addition to Roon Core. Now the better configuration is created automatically, hardly a bad thing. Anyway, the current issues are not caused by just that because people used such a setup for years before this update.

Thanks for the response. I’m sure they’re working on it, because their development team has been very customer-centric in the past. Case in point is Roon ARC. It’s changed my life!

Roon is sooooooooo laggy. Even lagging between tracks. No bueno.

Very fast and responsive in Southern California this evening. I have ARC disabled, could this have any impact? Two seconds to choose a new album and first track playing.

Everything about Roon has seemed a little shower since EA Build 1354. Not enough for me to complain about it, I just mentioned it.

Do you mean you used port „0“ in the ARC settings?

Yes the 0 setting, MacBook Pro M1 core via WiFi is solid for me.

Slow here, disturbing. Running Roon on a nuc

I am also noticing slowness. Running a Roon Nucleus. Music seems to play fine - once it gets going, but that can be a bit laggy as well. The app on the desktop and various iPads is painfully slow.

Since latest update, Roon is slower. Running on ROCK/NUC. Slower in start playing music, slower in searches and slower in changing albums to play. Also the remote (Android) seems to have some glitches that weren’t there before the update. Hopefully this will be ‘as before’ after a new update…
