It has, and still happen to me every time I update Roon on my Mac. I reported it to Roon a month or two ago. They said they were aware of the issue, but it appears they are not doing anything to fix it. Very disappointing.
You reported it at the end of January, like many others, but then most people reported the issue fixed with macOS 15.3, and like I said just a few posts up, Roon Labs said that they consider it solved because of this, and people who still experience it should open new tickets. If nobody does, Roon will continue to consider if solved:
As I stated, in the last update the issue of losing endpoints was not resolved.
and do you have an open Roon support ticket for that?
Same with me. Total PITA. I find that if I reboot my iMac (where Roon lives), my audio zones come back. But this shouldnât be so hard.
2018 is now back to factory settings. Later today I will install a new iOS and then a new Roon server.
I am hopeful, but not exactly giddy.
And as I stated, for most people, the macOS 15.3 update apparently did. Thatâs the feedback Roon Labs received, so they consider it solved. They asked that users who are still affected open a new support case. Nothing will change if nobody does that.
Once again,
I posted a ticket. The advice did nothing for my problem and my efforts actually made it worse.
I have reset my 2018 to factory settings. I will start from scratch this pm.
Whatever you did there, it has nothing to do with the macOS problem
In my opinion it has something to do with Sequoia and older iMacs as I run everything identical (same software versions and same hardware environment) with my Mac Mini M1 without any problems.
and setting up everything from scratch did not help with the iMac 2019 (did it twice).
No it doesnât. After more than 25 hours of real work, I still canât configure all my remotes. The zones attached to my server are fine, I guess, but no luck with my iPad or my one Roon bridge. Strange, but audio setup on my monitor shows my iPad and allows setup, but the iPad screen canât find my server.
Brought my mini back from scratch today. New iOS, new Roon download. No luck.
I only have about 15 minutes of patience left. I wonder if my Mac mini will sail like a frisbee?
Funny, Iâve been a Roon lover/evangelical for many years. But I canât get past the problem this time. Just bought a new DAC, but I havenât opened the box yet, pending a solution. Guess I will return it.
I love Roon, but right now it does not love me back. Glad my annual payment is months away. I have decisions to make.
Sad.
Donât give up. Just move on. Get a NUC and install ROCK. Then all you have to worry about is Roon updates instead of both Roon and Apple.
Not yet. Another 90 minutes and everything comes back. See what tomorrow brings.
This might not be particularly helpful but I wonder why you (and it seems many other users) are content to pay for Roon but not invest a comparatively small amount in a dedicated piece of hardware to run it on. Donât update your Mac if it does everything else you need it to; get a cheap NUC from eBay and install ROCK.
I understand why you feel this way, John. For me, it is a combination of history, economics and features.
First, I was in the ad agency business for almost 50 years. Most of those years were spent behind an Apple computer because my graphic artists insisted, meaning if I were to speak the language and comment on the work, I needed an Apple. The collective wisdom, true or not, stated flatly that Microsoft was second best.
Almost 20 years ago I bought a few thousand dollars worth of Apple stock. It has served me well. My investment is up about 500%. I want the team from Cupertino to win. So I am loath to give up on my current Mac mini. Or my other Mac mini. Or my AppleTV devices. Or my iPad. Or my wifeâs iPad. Or my Apple wireless keyboard and track pad. Or my Airpods. We are embedded in the ecosphere.
Third, what I have discovered in most all the Mac mini competitors as a Roon core is that the HDMI output is audio only. With my mini, I can output 5.1 audio and the complete desktop video into my 65" Sony as a computer monitor. I use my wireless controllers to scroll through the plethora of information available onscreen while I am listening to music on Roon. If I give up this feature, my enjoyment of Roon decreases.
So, while a NUC is a possible replacement option, it cannot fulfill three of my reasons for staying with this Mac mini as a Roon player/streamer.
More than you wanted to know, I bet, but your asked! ![]()
Just to let you know, after several hours of work, cursing, and frustration, I got all six of my zones working. The fix has stuck overnight, still there this morning. That hasnât happened in two weeks or more of this problem.
Hopeful, for a change.
Fingers crossed
and I hope it sticks, but do let them know if not ![]()
Who is âthem?â
I did this, such as it is, on my own. I reset my Mac mini to factory settings, with a clean new Sonoma iOS, then downloaded a clean Roon app. I reconfigured everything. So far, so good.
Roon Labs, as mentioned several times.
