Describe the issue

I have a NUC13 pro set up as a ROCK, with a large usb attached as storage. I had a power failure. I have restarted the NUC and restarted the SSD. when I log into the NUC remotely from my pc, it says all is running ok...but it shows the database as 99% available. When I go to windows explorer in win 11, it finds the NUC, but shows the storage as empty. The Roon app on my pc shows nothing in my library. In settings in the Roon app, when tap find my OS, it finds the NUC Rock no problem. Under storage in setup, it cannot find my music folder on the ssd attached to the NUC. Looking at the ROCK under the storage folder in windows explorer, storage shows no folders or files.

Describe your network setup

cable modem, tplink router, wired network. NUC Rock plugged into a network switch.

Heya,

What happens if you connect the USB drive to your Windows computer? Does the drive show up there as empty as well?

I have a feeling your hard drive might be having issues after the power outage.

I just tried that, windows sees everything on the drive. no drive problem

If the drive has been formatted as NTFS, then, when it is attached to the Windows PC, run chkdsk /f on it then eject it safely from your PC (don’t just unplug it).

See:

Great to know. I’ve formatted my music drive as ExFat.

I tried that just now…I get chkdsk cannot run because in use by another process. I just had a thought. I could move my music library temporarily off of this disc and reformat it…what is the best way to reformat as exfat?

Run cmd in Administrator mode - that should work to run chkdsk in the Command Prompt window.

I was in administrator mode…still received that error message. in the process of copying my library to another folder off of the ssd in preparation for reformatting…

Odd - can you post a screenshot to show what you entered and the error message?

Edit: OK, it appears that you’ve moved to plan B.

Microsoft Windows [Version 10.0.22631.4890]
(c) Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.

C:\Windows\System32>i:

I:>chkdsk /f
The type of the file system is NTFS.
Cannot lock current drive.

Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another
process. Chkdsk may run if this volume is dismounted first.
ALL OPENED HANDLES TO THIS VOLUME WOULD THEN BE INVALID.
Would you like to force a dismount on this volume? (Y/N)

plan b seems better…so how do I best reformat the ssd as exfat

Well yes, you changed to the drive itself - so that is expected behaviour. You should remain on the C: drive and enter chkdsk /f I:

ah…that is helpful. I will keep in mind i do not reformat

Once you’ve copied off your files, then in Windows, format the drive and choose exfat as the format…

ok, thank you I will try that…did you get that window from right clicking the drive in windows explorer?

Yup - format is one of the options in the right-click menu…

ok…I will do that as soon as I finish copying the library…29% complete…once I reformat, then just move the library back to the ssd and plug into the NUC?

Yup - that should do it. Roon should read the files and match them to database entries without any further ado.

that would be great. thank you for all the help…I will report back.

Just make sure your new drive’s name matches the current one.
