· The Nucleus boots up and I can connect to it in the Roon app without issue, but I have a question about configuration/storage/attached devices
Describe the issue
Nucleus (2022 model, never updated) is not mounting a USB drive that contains my music library. The drive does not appear in Roon Storage → Add Folder. Only Nucleus Data appears. The Nucleus web interface at port 8080 does not load. I had 2,000+ albums and now only see 33. I need help mounting the USB drive and recovering my library.”
You don’t need a port. Just go to http://nucleus
(And the default port for http is 80. Port number 8080 is an alternative that is sometimes used for http proxies)
What is the file system format of this drive? NTFS (the Windows standard format)?
Surely you updated it to the respective current Roon versions?
Thanks for reaching out. We’ve checked the diagnostics from your Nucleus, and here’s what we see:
The drive currently plugged into your Nucleus is a WD Elements SE. The Nucleus detects it but refuses to open it because the drive is flagged as “not cleanly closed”. This usually happens when a drive is unplugged without using “Safely Remove” / “Eject”, or after it was connected to a Windows PC. That’s why it doesn’t show up under Add Folder.
Your Roon library, however, was set up with a music folder on a Seagate One Touch drive, and that drive hasn’t been connected to the Nucleus since it last restarted.
To get your library back:
Which drive holds your music? If it’s the Seagate One Touch, simply plug it back into the Nucleus, and Roon should pick your library up again.
If your music is on the WD Elements SE, please repair it first: connect it to a Windows PC, open This PC, right-click the drive > Properties > Tools > Check, and let it scan and repair. Then use Safely Remove Hardware before unplugging it, and connect it to the Nucleus again. (On a Mac, you can use Disk Utility > First Aid, although Windows handles this type of drive more reliably.)
Once the drive appears, go to Settings > Storage and check that the folder with your music is listed and enabled.
And as @Suedkiez mentioned, you can reach the Nucleus web page at http://nucleus, no port needed. Your Nucleus is already on the current Roon version.
Circling back on this, have you had a chance to see whether the Seagate One Touch or the WD Elements SE is the drive that actually holds your music? If the music is on the WD drive, we still need it repaired before the Nucleus will open it, and if you are checking the Nucleus status page or storage view while you test, the RoonOS WebUI can help with that. Let us know what you find and whether the folder shows up again in Settings > Storage.
Please note, if we don’t hear back from you this thread may close automatically soon. If the thread auto-closes and you need further assistance, please submit a reopen support request via the technical support help form below and specify that the issue should be reopened. Thank you.
