Thank you for reaching Roon support, and welcome to our community.
If your Roon Nucleus is not showing up in your Windows Network and you’re unable to access or add folders from the internal SSD, this is typically due to Windows network discovery settings. Please follow the steps below to enable proper visibility:
1. Switch Network Type to Private
Open Settings > Network & Internet > Status.
Click “Properties” under your active network.
Under Network Profile, select Private.
2. Enable SMB 1.0/CIFS File Sharing Support
Open Control Panel > Programs > Turn Windows features on or off.
Scroll down and check:
SMB 1.0/CIFS Client
Click OK and restart your PC if prompted.
3. Temporarily Disable Firewall
Go to Control Panel > System and Security > Windows Defender Firewall.
Click “Turn Windows Defender Firewall on or off”.
Select “Turn off Windows Defender Firewall” for both private and public networks.
After applying these changes, try accessing the internal SSD again via:
\\NUCLEUS\
or
\\[Nucleus IP Address]\
Let us know if you’re still experiencing issues or if you’d like help locating the internal SSD’s shared folders.
Changes that Microsoft has made to security means that it is no longer possible to access Nucleus or ROCK folders. Then the Group Policy Editor of Windows can be used to work around this.
Windows File Explorer has a habit of not finding non-Windows devices in your network until it’s told to do so. So typing \\Nucleusone\ in the address field (note: NOT the Search field) of File Explorer will kick Windows into displaying it again. In this situation, mapping a Windows drive to a folder in the Nucleus will pin it permanently in File Explorer as a drive on your PC.
If you have issue 1, then this article explains how to gain access to the folders on your Nucleus+:
Changes to SMB security in Windows 11 24H2 release preview may prevent access to third party NAS appliances or other devices.
You want to start at step 6 if you have Windows 11 Pro or step 8 if you have Windows 11 Home. If you get a screen asking for username and password on trying to access the NucleusOne, then for RoonOS they are guest and guest
Thank you for you support. Unfortunately i have been unavailable to resolve this problem.
I understand Roon is working on this issue. I therefore will wait until a solution is available before using my nucleus one, and i will return to using Roon on my windows pc.
I hope things are resolved soon.
Again thank you for your assistance.
Sorry for any confusion here - there isn’t currently a known Roon issue tied to your thread or your issue, so unfortunately, there isn’t a fix to wait for.
Can you provide more details on what failed when attempting @Geoff_Coupe’s suggestions above? Which version of Windows 11 are you currently running?
From your description, it sounds like you’re running into a known issue caused by Microsoft tightening security which @Geoff_Coupe has highlighted above. The username and password is still guest and guest, to access Roon OS, but now you’ll have to perform a few extra steps to tell Windows that it’s OK to connect to your Nucleus as well.
Hi
Yes the article worked. I followed step 8 for windows home and i can now see and access the data folder for nucleus one. I can also access folders and tracks on my pc.
The only thing i still can’t do is use add a folder from roon.
Hi
I followed the guidance set out from step 8. I now can see and access the data folder on nucleus one. I have begun to add my music to this folder. I can also access the files added via my Windows pc.
However, i Still can’t add folders via setting and storage on the nucleus one.
That’s great news! When you mention you can add folders via your storage settings, what are you attempting to add specifically? Feel free to add any screenshots as well.
If youre referring to the internal storage of your Nucleus, you should already see a folder added in your storage settings. Roon will watch this drive for music files that you copy to it via the network, and automatically import them into your library.
These are screen shots taken from my PC showing the folders on Roon holding my music files.
There are issues with some files not transferring. Seems Roon won’t accept files without the file properties. This is overcome by Copying the file and Roon will add it as an inported file.
See screen shots below
About half of my music library hasn’t transferred into the file A Roon Music Library. I think it is to do with the properties missing. I can transfer these files by the copy import method.
I still don’t understand why there are no folders appearing in storage and choose a musical folder.
I don’t understand why you are trying to add another music storage folder ( your 10th and 11th screenshots) when Roon has got the Internal Storage folder added by default?
How have you created your music library? I ask, because your 9th screenshot shows the “3 Doors Down” folder seems to have just one audio track in it, apparently marked as track number 9.
I wonder about your metadata. Roon tries to identify actual album releases, where a folder contains all the tracks of the album release. If this is not the case, then it will use the metadata as far as it can to create an “album” and mark it as “unidentified”.
Thank you for the screenshots and detailed follow-up! I believe @Geoff_Coupe is correct above - once you’ve copied your files into the internal storage folder within your Nucleus, you don’t have to actually ‘add’ any new storage folders within your Roon Settings>Storage. The internal music storage folder is already added, and your tracks will automatically begin to import and be analyzed.
You can see just a snippet of this from one of your screenshots:
In regard to some of your tracks not importing properly, can you please head to your Roon Settings>Library>Skipped files and see if any of the missing tracks show up here? Feel free to share another screenshot. Thank you!
Hi,
I now have access via Windows file explorer network folder to the data folder In Roon Nucleus One. From here I click and the the storage folder is displayed. I click and open the internal storage folder. I have added a folder called artists. I have cut and paste my music file from my artist folder held on my PC.
I open Roon and the files are displayed and play on request.
I have used the drag and drop process from my PC to the Roon. This works, but creates an import folder for each transfer.
Roon still doesn’t show a folder when looking at the storage page.
my preference is to continue with adding files to my created folders.
However, is the drag and drop the preferred option and is is more reliable than my option?

It would be my choice to have my PC data library and my Roon Library the same. However, I am open to other ideas story my PC data library that is best for Roon and best for transferring files to Roon.
any thoughts?
