Operating Roon with Eversolo DMP-A6 or Hifi Rose RS250A

hi,
I am wondering about using an Eversolo DMP-A6 or Hifi Rose RS250A as my main way to operate music, run Roon. I am getting tired of mainly using computers, tablets and smartphones. I just want a simple and fast way to run Roon. How are the experiences with the Eversolo or Hifi Rose (apart from quality, DAC, etc). I would love to hear it.

cheers,
Paul

Quality is fine, for both, but they are still Roon endpoints, not Roon remotes, so you will still need to use a phone, tablet, or computer to control playback.

I’m using both (with external DACs) and there are some differences (only in using as Roon endpoint):

  • the Rose has a better and bigger display
  • the build quality is bit better for the Rose
  • the Rose has a bluetooth remote included (for the Eversolo you’ve to buy it), which can used also for Roon
  • the Rose will output DoP on the digital outputs, but the Eversolo also native DSD
  • the Eversolo can output over HDMI multichannel PCM and DSD upto 5.1
  • if you want to use the device not only for Roon, then the Eversolo is the much better option.

But remember: For choosing files for playing in Roon, you’ll need for both devices an additional device with Roon remote.

Just to clarify, you need:

  • A RoonServer needs to be run on a computer. That computer can sit anywhere on your network doesn’t have to be, and shoudn’t in my view) in the listening area at all.
  • Then you need endpoints that the Server can send the music to over the network, that would be the Eversolo or the Rose.
  • And finally, you need a control device running the Roon software on a tablet, or phone, or another PC or laptop.

thank you. I should not have said “run Roon”.
I am already a Roon user, with a Mac mini m2 as server, an hifiberry as endpoint and I use my iPhone and or tablet or MacBook to control.
I am just wondering what the control/remote abilities of the Hifi Rose and/or Eversolo are. Especially the Hifi Rose has a large screen, so selecting albums, playlists, internetradio stations should be quite possible I thought? And might avoid a bit of extra screen time on iPhones etc.
For now I use an iPad in kiosk mode. That might also do the job…

Thank you!

They have no remote abilities only the Roon app or stuff using the Roon API in web browsers can do that these are endpoints not control devices.

That’s not completely true.
With the remote, you can control also when Roon is used, in pause/play/next/previous/…
I’ve also other Roon endpoints with remotes, like the Naim Unity Atom HE or the Matrix Audio element i2 and also here you can use the remote for controlling your Roon playlist.
What you can’t do (also not with the touch screen) is to search and create a playlist. This must be done with a Roon remote device.

I think that if a endpoint is “Roon Ready” part of that evaluation/certification is basic remote pass throughs as you’ve mentioned. I don’t think that works for RoonBridge based endpoints, however.

Yes but that’s not being a Roon specific controller, it’s just basic operation of the playback engine. I would not count that in what the op is asking. All my devices are capable of that but I don’t define it as Roon control.

Thank you all for the answers and help. It is clear to me now. I’ll just need to keep on using tablets and/or smartphones for controlling Roon. I was hoping for a more elegant solution.
And this issue is definitely not an excuse to purchase an Eversolo or Hifi Rose

Roon has suddenly stopped working with my Eversolo DMP A6. What givesf?

I suggest you open a Support Request in the Support category of the forum.

Similarly, for your issue about Sonos.

A bit late to the party, but it appears you may be able to sideload Roon directly into the Eversolo, then you can use the touchscreen to control your music. Someone in this post mentioned something like this.

Which DAC are you using? Any comments on the DAC in each?

Initially was looking for a standalone DAC but eversolo a8 and HiFi rose 250a look like decent DACs too
