Playback discrepancy between DSD/DSF and FLAC/WAV sources (ref#7GQ61U)

What best describes your playback issue?

· Other

Is there a specific error message you see? If so, please select from the following options:

· Other

Please try to reboot your Roon Server and check to see if this helps.

· Rebooting my Server had no effect, the issue remains

Please try to reboot and unplug/replug in your affected audio device and check to see if this helps.

· Rebooting and unplugging/replugging my audio device, the issue remains

Please open your Roon Remote and select the "System Output" Zone and try to play to it. Do you encounter any playback errors with this Zone?

· Playback *errors for both* my other zone and when I play to System Output as well

Please try fully rebooting your network equipment

· No, I'm still having trouble

An issue with playback on System Output and another zone often indicates a network security problem. *Check your firewall(s)* to ensure that *Roon*, *RoonServer *and *RAATServer* are allowed to properly communicate

· I'm still having problems / This isn't relevant to me

Does the issue happen with local library music, streaming service music, or both?

· Only local content affected, and I don't have any streaming services to test with

Where is your local content stored?

· Somewhere else on the local network (NAS)

If you move the content from your NAS to a local storage location, do you still experience issues with playback?

· The issue happens for both the NAS storage location and on the secondary storage location

Please try playing content of a lower sample rate (44.1kHz or 48kHz), does this work as expected?

· No, lower sample rates are still affected

What is the model/manufacturer of the affected audio device(s) and the connection type?

· Okto DAC8 - USB from Roon Bridge using Okto Driver(ASIO)

Describe the issue

5.1>7.1 works for DSD/DSF sources but not for FLAC/WAV sources(even converted from the same DSD/DSF source)

Describe your network setup

Roon Server(Windows 11) with Roon Bridge(Windows 11), Firewalls disabled, 100% switched network, no wifi involved. Output is through Roon Bridge

Based upon a previous discussion: 5.1 to 7.1 not supported for FLAC/WAV?

Roon doesn’t do multichannel up-mixing:

Can you elaborate what makes you believe Roon is performing up-mixing, especially for the usually performance hungry to process DSD format but not the easy to compute PCM format? Can you provide screenshots of Roon’s signal path for relevant cases please? Do you use any special DSP filters (convolution)?
Also what is the origin of those DSD files (official purchase, CD/DVD RIP)? Did you ever look inside the file container to check the format (and channels) of what’s actually inside?
