The communication wasn’t great, but you can switch to the new supported solution using a Docker container, which was created by Roon Labs for this purpose. Roon will run in this container together with all software it needs, so it is isolated from the underlying QNAP OS (and its outdated system libraries, which caused this mess). This should be future-proof.
