Description of Issue
I went to power back on my Nucleus Rev. B and the power light does not light up.
I followed the troubleshooting on this post from 2023. Green light and white light shine when I hit the power button (see photo below), and I get the message in the attached image on my computer monitor connected via HDMI. The Nucleus also shows up on my network.
Does this mean all is well save for a fried power button light? Is there an easy fix for this?
Thanks for the info, Mike, on the boot messages. Things appear to be functioning correctly.
I would like to get that power light working again, however. @support
What is interesting is that I could not get the Nucleus to power on – no message via HDMI on the monitor and not showing on the network – until I took the bottom off the Nucleus. I realize now I should have mentioned this in my original posting – it might be the key twist.
I want to be sure nothing else is wrong so that it dies sometime after I put the bottom back on.
Hi @babysneaks,
Thanks for reaching out to us to ask about this. We want to take a look at your Nucleus’ logs to check if there are any problems with it. Can you please use the directions found here and send over a set of logs to our File Uploader?
Did you disconnect the Nucleus from power when you removed the bottom plate? Cycling the power could explain why it started up after this.
Thanks @daniel. I sent you the logs folder, zipped up and named with my username, and a DM with more detail about which logs corresponded to the problem. Tim
Thank you for your patience. Diagnostic logging indicates that the Nucleus can power on, but is encountering generic errors attempting to access upstream servers and other Roon devices on the network. That’s good news, in that there’s not a BIOS-level failure recorded by the unit. However, it might point to problems with the Nucleus network interface or the underlying network. The unit hasn’t pinged our servers in two days, however, and is currently running the previous (not the current) Roon build available.
Please share a screenshot of the RoonOS web admin page for this unit, along with a basic overview of the network topology involved with its internet connection (does it use the same router as your other Roon devices, etc.).
I am looking over your account, but it doesn’t look like your Nucleus has been seen in the last 10 days. Are you still able to turn it on at the present time? Is it connected to the network?
Note that you can transfer your Roon license over between servers as often as you’d like with no impact to the database(s), so if you wish you can do this a try to make sure the Nucleus operates as expected.
It sounds like the issue is with the power button itself, and if this is the case, you can reach out to our RMA team to request just a power button replacement by using the below form:
The answers to your questions are in messages with @connor and @daniel. Please take a look at those if you can. I am quite old and ill and would like to avoid typing stuff. I will see if I can share them with you.
If you have specific instructions on how I can switch Roon cores for a brief moment without losing the database for my new Roon core, please send them. I tried this once in the past and lost the original database. If not for the backup, I would have lost hundreds of hours of work.
If you sign into a new Roon Server, you’ll see a message letting you know you’re already signed into another one. Simply click ‘Deauthorize’ to switch over. If you ever need to go back to your original server, you can follow the same steps. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions—we’re happy to help!
The database on your original server should be untouched by this process.
Second, the configuration: The Nucleus is connected to my wifi router via ethernet cable. The Mac running Roon is also connected to the same wifi router via ethernet cable. I sometimes use a iPhone and a laptop with Roon to control things, both tied to the wifi network offered by the same wifi router.
While I had the Nucleus set as my Roon Server, I ran an update of the operating system on it and I got a message that had been successful.
I also pulled the logs again. If you would like this set, send me the upload link again.
The only issue I can discern is the light on the power button. I am assuming this is a rare issue.
I got an email from Olena to get an RMA. Let me know if you see any other issue in this information worth investigating for repair when you have my Nucleus that I can add to the RMA. Also, take a look at the Nucleus when you have it in hand. I am hoping to avoid a statement along the lines of what my mechanic told me last month, “We just changed the air filter. We never looked to see that the brake pads were bare.”
If you’ve already submitted a ticket with our RMA team, then you’re all set for next steps. They’re in charge of all hardware-related Nucleus issues, and run full analysis on the device.
Unless there’s another issue you’re having, we’ll go ahead and close this thread for now, and our RMA team will continue communication until you have your Nucleus back in your hands with a new power button. Thank you!
I have not already submitted a ticket. I am the process of getting one. Nothing has arrived so far.
My question is @connor requested the screenshot that I posted: Is there any indication in that screenshot of an additional problem? Would another round of the logs be of help?
Given the great expense of this out of warranty repair, I want to make sure I have aa firm a grip as possible of any additional issues that you might see that could lead to additional expense.
