Description of Issue

Had been working fine using Roon Remote app side loaded from Google Play.
Stopped working so uninstalled and installed Amazon Roon Remote app from Amazon AppStore
Will not connect (has entirely wrong IP address) which I cannot seem to edit.
Even after reinstalling app x2 following uninstall on Fire tablet new install does not ask me to login and tries to connect to the same (wrong) IP.
Is there some sort on configuration file I need to delete on the Amazon Fire tablet to do a true reinstall, and if so how do I delete it please or how can I edit the IP address to the correct one? If I press Configure Roon Os devices the window comes up saying Roon OS Devices with the IP address in blue, but cannot edit it. If I press it a window with that address opens in Silk browser but cannot connect.

Fellow user here, welcoming you to the forum, albeit for an unpleasant reason!

Would be enlightening if you could splurge some verbiage about the problem’s symptoms :upside_down_face:

Just edit your post to add explanations.

Sorry, do not know why nothing shows under description. It shows when I filled it in and when I go to edit!

It sounds as though your Fire tablet may be on a different subnet to the Roon Server on your MacMini?

Are you sure that your WiFi network (used by the Fire tablet, I assume) is in the same subnet as your wired ethernet devices?

BTW, in your initial post, you had accidentally destroyed part of the formatting command used for hidden text, so your text got hidden as well. I’ve corrected it for you.

Thank you!
The Amazon Fire is connected and has an IP address from the router and the browser etc all work. I can even connect to the ROCK system status page. This is why I cannot understand where the IP address Roon Remote is showing has come from and how I can correct it.

Reboot the Fire tablet?

Thanks Geoff. Have tried multiple times and still does the same.

Just for info, what are the IP addresses of your MacMini and your Fire tablet, and what IP address is the Roon Remote on the tablet looking for?

MacMini 192.168.10.48, Amazon Fire HD8 192.168.10.67 and the tablet Roon remote [moderated]. Have no idea where this IP is coming from!

Is that 185.x.x.x address your public IP, by any chance?

Just checked, and yes.
How do I get round this (think I need the Public IP for your SkyQ system otherwise won’t record. Both iPhones in the house and iPad work without issue.

Um - clutching at straws here: reboot the router? Otherwise I’m afraid you’ll have to wait for the Support team or someone with greater knowledge than I.

Thanks Geoff. Will try that (but can’t for a few days).
Think I have rebooted the router since the problem started :frowning:

Hi @Steven_Byrne,

Thanks for the update! Could you please reproduce the issue and share the specific date, time and name of the track playing when the issue occurs?

Once you let me know this info, I’ll go ahead and enable diagnostics for your account so I can review the logging for clues.

If you’d rather do it yourself manually, please use the directions found here and send over a set of logs to our File Uploader.

Thanks!

Thanks Benjamin
The problem is the Amazon Fire 8HD tries to connect to the core via the public IP rather than the actual IP address and I cannot see any way to edit this. If I delete and reinstall it does not ask me to log in again and once again points to the public IP so cannot connect. How do I get a clean reinstall? Is there a config file I need to delete on the tablet, and if so how do I delete it please?
Happy to send log files if that will help (but I assume not)??

Hi @Steven_Byrne,

Deleting the Roon Remote app from your tablet is an effective way to fully remove the app from the device.

As another test, does the same issue occur when using Arc?

A set of logs from the device would be helpful, please use the directions found here and send over a set of logs to our File Uploader.

Thanks!

Thanks Benjamin
Uploaded Roon Server logs as Steven Byrne Logs. Still same issue, but ARC on tablet works fine (loaded yesterday, still working today).
Let me know if you need anything else uploading

Tried reinstall and router restart again. Still same problem and ARC still working.
Cannot understand when I uninstall and reinstall is does not ask me to sign in like it did when I first installed, and like ARC did yesterday. That is why I am wondering if some sort of configuration file is being left behind.

Hi @Steven_Byrne,

Apologies for any confusion - I was hoping to get a set of logs from the issue HD8 device. Follow the below steps:

Connect your PC to Android phone and install ADB (instructions are here (all platforms)). Then:

  1. Type adb shell in terminal
  2. Type logcat v (ref: Ferramenta de linha de comando Logcat  |  Android Studio  |  Android Developers)
  3. Reproduce the problem and let terminal print logs for 3-5 more seconds
  4. Select output from the moment you started the reproduction of the bug till the very end
  5. Upload the log here and let us know once you have done so:

Thanks!

Cannot get this to work.
Follow instructions and run ./adb devices command from correct source in terminal and confirms daemon is running but list of devices is blank. Fire HD8 set to FTP and recognises connected but nothing shows up on screen about allowing USB debugging. Help!!
