New MoodPlay device also for Roon? I like to start a discussion here…
Yesterday I visited SENIC, the company who made the NUIMOs in Berlin.
They designed a new product called “MoodPlay” currently for Sonos only. More info you can find here: MoodBlocks
Their idea is to have a small vinyl card with a NFC-Chip included they call “Mood Block”.
Each card is linked to a playlist either predefined or customized by the user. So in some way this is a kind of replacement for the good old CD. Also Mood Blocks with customer defined and uploaded images printed on them will be possible in future.
Yesterday I saw the MoodPlay for the first time and must say: Really a very nice device.
They showed interest to adapt the MoodPlay device to Roon. This is why I visited them in Berlin.
What do you guys think about this idea?
If you like you can also ask questions here and let’s hope I will be able to answer
Not really for me, but I would consider it for the wife. She likes music but doesn’t know what a lot of it is. So creating her mood playlists like Salsa, Female Pop etc could potentially be useful to link to a card.
It has an appeal for that, but the full album only listener in me is disgusted I even had the thought
Not really my cup of tea. I don’t feel the urge to get something like this into my system. But of course, this is very personal. Perhaps some ROON-users will love this gimmick.
Hi guys, if you encounter an issue that your rooExtend Roon Extensions report that they are no more licensed this is caused by a failure on the Sellcodes side.
I opened a ticket and let you know if the issue got fixed.
I like the idea. Anything that helps keep us from staring at our phones seems like a good idea to me! I’m an album listener myself, but one of these could be set up to play an album, or a few in a row, like at a party or dinner gathering.
Yesterday a had an online meeting with one of the developers in Denmark. He told me that an infrastructure is to be created that will allow playlists to be shared across the most popular providers.
So if friend of yours has a cool Spotify playlist it should be able to store its ID on the MoodBlock using their App. From there you can for example also listen to it on Apple Music or Amazon or Deezer or…
My part would be to bring this to Roon either by building a rooMood App or by creating an interface to the MoodPayer device. They plan to implement MQTT so this should be easy.
I like the idea of combining physical with digital aspects. I was thinking of a way to link all of my LPs and quickly access them digitally–preferably in Roon.
I like the idea of MoodPlay, but I don’t anticipate buying a block for each of my records. What I do like is the idea of an extension that let’s me scan a QR code that I keep with an LP and to pull up that album from my Roon library.
I have no idea on how much they will cost. NFC tags should be cheap. but they also plan that the user can customize them with own pictures. There is a lot more that shall come in this respect.
But the idea with the QR is not bad at all, I’ll keep this in mind
The scanner should be the camera of the iPhone/iPad right?
BTW I solved my LP issue with the extension “(LP)” at the end of the album names I digitized. If I enter LP in the Roon search only those will be displayed.
I saw on their website that 5 MoodBlocks are currently selling for ~30€, which would mean for my (rather small) LP collection I’d have to spend around ~1000€ (if I wanted a digital twin for each record).
The scanner should be the camera of the iPhone/iPad right?
I think the most seamless integration would be to be able to open the lockscreen camera, scan the QR code, have a custom url scheme (perhaps linked directly to an extension of yours?) which by tapping will land you on the specific album page inside Roon (I’m not sure if Roon allows for deeplinking like this, maybe you already have experience here).
I do think it’s critical for the process of scanning to be as quick or quicker than manually opening the app and searching for the album within Roon. This way I think the best aspects of both formats will be blended, the beauty of flipping through my physical record collection as well as the ease of access of my digital library.
I think Roon’s userbase probably has a good overlap of people that cherish both formats, which is why I think this could be a fantastic addition to rooExtend.
I actually quite like the idea of tagging my albums the way you’re doing it as well and just might have to copy that.
Thinking about it now… maybe it wouldnt have to be the camera but in fact the NFC scanner of the iPhone. Regular NFC tags are indeed a commodity and you can get large quantities at a very low price. Even with 3M on the back, if you wanted to stick them to a protective sleeve (of course not directly on the LP jacket).
If MoodBlocks use regular NFC technology you could basically get two birds with one stone here. MoodBlocks/Play could be the premium experience, while others might only want to scan their existing LPs with ‘regular’ NFC tags.
Question regarding the Roon Display functionality via HDMI:
I have 3 rooExtend instances (they are all rack mounted in a server) and was thinking of taking one of the Pis out to attach to my TV as a Roon Display.
Will the TV automatically turn on and off when playback is started/stopped? Will it work with the native Roon Display functionality and show up under Roon Displays?
I would like to use an automated solution so as to not need additional input from my side, much like an appliance.
Will the TV turn on/off automatically? - this depends on how you have your AV hooked up for me I have an AV switch that sense’s signal and switches. So yes, but, it depends. I have an HD Fury Vertex.
Will it work with native Roon Display func? Yes, this is how it works.
That said, I ended up building my own MOCK using Ubuntu and Chromium for a bit more control over the OS but I am embarrassed with how much time this “project” sucked up. YMMV depending on your Linux skills.
EDIT 2200 hrs: Thanks to Henry_Svendblad) it is now working
Hi All, I’ve just purchased a license for RooAIDJ for use with my Pi3B+ - In roon the roon control works and i can stream from my iphone via the Pi - However, I seem to be in a redirect loop for setting up the rooAIDJ app when following the instructions to try and enter the license as it reports via the app that rooExtend is disconnected.
EDIT: I have entered my server location 192.168.1.*** in the RooAIDJ settings but still no joy
Thank you Henry you are a star - It didn’t show up in the extensions before but was there after I checked again - All is working now - Once again thank you
Hi all. Just writing to let you know about a problem I had the last few weeks with my Nuimo - Pi connection. We have solved this issue thanks to thorough assistance by @DrCWO -I wouldn’t have able to fix this myself.
I’ve noticed that the connection between my Nuimo and Raspberry Pi got lost constantly and got disconnected for half a minute or so. Then it connected again etc. I had not changed the location of Pi & Nuimo and even moved them next to each other but the connectivity issues continued. @DrCWO suggested a few options, I sent him the System-Log entry and eventually we were able to pin it down to my Windows PC (not the Core but serves as a Remote) when we found out that the problem stopped with the PC shut down. We checked the Windows firewall but in the end it was the firewall of a seperate Internet Security software I have running on my PC.
Maybe this is helpful for other users someday…
I am impressed by the service level @DrCWO is providing even if the problem is not caused by his software and I’m very grateful. Great products and great customer service by him and his team. Many thanks!
Need Help - New Pi, license Codes didn’t work anymore! What can I do?
The Following Extensions are licensed by me:
RooUpNp
RooWatch
RooNuimo
RooPlay
I Hope it’s possible to revoke the codes and connect these to the serial of the new PI, bc I didn’t own the old Pi anymore and didn’t use RooExtend for several month now, so no chance to remove it from the old one.
