Then I think I can’t help here any more…
Hi,
can somebody who uses rooExtend with a display over HDMI post a screenshot please?
Thanks.
Enno
Hi Enno it is just a black Linux login screen with white text on it unless you press the display album art button in Roon and then you get Roon Artwork displayed.
Is that what you are asking about?
Hi Michael,
thank You. I would like to see how it looks (font, cover art) because I have no micro HDMI cable to test it by myself. I consider to use it as Roon endpoint with display.

I will try and grab a photo for you later when I can get access to my man cave that my son is currently using for his university work.
Mostly it looks identical to the Room Chromecast display but is a good little free bonus for using RooExtend
Ho Enno here you go and hopefully this helps you see what it looks like. There can be the odd issue with Chromium but generally it works well enough for my use
Thank You @Michael_Harris for this shot from your man cave. Very appreciated. ![]()
This helps me. I hope there is some customizing possible in the future (maybe in one of the next Roon updates, who knows) but this looks good for enough for me to use this feature on my display.
I am sure @DrCWO can explain the options of hand crafting the backgrounds and any possible changes. I know he has shared login details for those interested in the past.
Glad to be of help anyway
I had this on my list for some time now BUT I have to travel to South East Asia for approx. three month starting next week ![]()
So no more updates till mid of April 24. Sorry ![]()

I have RooExtend installed on a Pi Zero W2. The light is flashing as it should. WiFi password has been set and it is connected to my WiFi network. It shows up in Roon Extensions. Once I enable it and set it to un hide licensed extensions, all extensions briefly show up and then disappear. Even the License Manager disappears. The light stops flashing on the Pi Zero W2 and it apparently crashes.
The only way to recover has been to re-flash the SD card and start again. Then the same thing happens.
My intent was to connect my new Surface Dial, make sure it is working and then purchase a license, but I can’t get that far.
Any suggestions?
Hi @Wayne_Foster,
I must admit that I did not test this functionality (enable all unlicensed Extension) on a Zero W2. But This should not lead to crash that only can be recovered by re-flashing the SD.
As a very big number of rooDial users are happy with the Zero W2 I recommend getting a license fot rooDial and enter this in the License Manager. If you still have this issue maybe your Pi is defective or your WiFi connection is not good enough. Roon recommends wired Ethernet and this recommendation is also true for its API.
If you bought the license and it did not work I can also offer a refund ![]()
Which release did you use. V3.3.x?

Thank you for the exceptionally prompt reply.
I used 3.3.0.
I also used a USB Ethernet adaptor which was recognized by the Zero. It connected to my network, RooExtend showed up in Extensions and then behaved the same after enabling and setting to unhide.
I’ll try buying a license later today.
Good News. I purchased a license and all is well. Still crashes when I unhide the unlicensed extensions.
RooDial is working great.
Thanks for the suggestions.
Wayne
Great, I’ll put it on my ToDo list of things to be checked when I’m back from South East Asia mid of April ![]()

Hello!
I was wondering what the minimum requirements as far as a Pi 4’s memory to build the RooExtend on?
Hi @Steve_Jones,
it would be fine with a 2GB Pi. If you can afford 4GB this would be more future proof but not mandatory.

Thank you!
Hello DrCWO,
I obtained my first rooExtend product a few months ago to be used with the rooDial. That worked well for me. I attempted to update it today to rooExtend v3.3.0. All went well up to the post restart:
where this is what I see under Extensions in Roon:
I am unable to see rooExtend v3.3.0, but only the existing 2.3.2. Also, the Microsoft Dial continues to flash after pressing the small button at the bottom of the device.
Can you advise?
Thank you,
David
Hi @David_Weinberg,
I first must understand your configuration. Your run Pi or rooExtend-Box? Which Pi, how many? Your wrote about seeing stiil v2.x.x. And not v3.x.x.
YOu use Wired Ethernet or WiFi. On what unit what?
Please descríbe your setup first.

Dear DrCWO, I finally got myself updating from v2.1.3 to v3.3.0 following the instructions. But nothing happens, I don’t see the rooExtend appearing in Roon and also not on my LAN. I saved the licence to a USB stick and put the firmware v3.3.0 on a micro sd-card. When restarting as instructed nothing happens. Did I miss something? I’m using a rpi4b 2gb, and 16gb sd card.
Thanks
Bernie
