Roon 1.8 is great

After solving the setting issue by today’s update I’m quite happy with the new update. I like the new font and I’m also very pleased with the new portrait mode on my Samsung Tab S6. I’ll get used to the new focus options. And - hey - accent color “purple” is a matter of personal preference. Maybe we can choose this individually in a future release?

I have no problems with 1.8, everything is working just fine. I like it. Vertical scrolling and portrait mode on my iPad are nice features.

No worries. Enjoy the music!

To be honest, I am a user of Roon Rock 10GEN i5 NUC. Apart from a few minor issues regarding this 1.8 update, I think the overall update makes me very satisfied.
The new UI also allows us to get the song-related information we want more quickly. In the past, it was necessary to select a lot of conditions and manually select the conditions for query.

On the other hand, I think most of the problems of people who encounter problems should be hardware problems.
In terms of current functions, the demand for CPU is really more than before.

Owning lots of expensive hi-fi, but running a Roon core on inadequate hardware is a bit like owning a sports car and fitting the cheapest tyres you can find - it’s never going to be a tremendously rewarding experience…

There are lots of other threads to express your disgruntlement at the update - please leave us to enjoy our little corner of happiness

I too really like 1.8! Still intuitive with a great look; visually stunning, just beautiful. I like the open space as when I see every nook and cranny stuffed it is visual noise. I just want to chill and enjoy music and the open space supports that psychologically. Vertical scrolling is so much faster for me visually. Recent listening is fantastic! Love the features and find it fun finding how the things I did before are now done and enhanced with new features. Great to see new functions added based on community input. Roon team’s innovation and hard work is much appreciated. Thank you Roon team!

I do think that many of the guys on the Roon forum are being a bit disingenuous.
It’s obvious that Roon put a lot of work into this, why can’t we appreciate that.
It aint broke (for the most part) just a bit different and teething issues are to be expected. Report back by all means but at least give them a chance.

I just spent my first two full days with 1.8. Massive success.

Just had to come here and add to the positive feedback. Thank you, thank you, thank you; to the team at Roon. Your efforts have not gone unnoticed :slightly_smiling_face: :slightly_smiling_face: :slightly_smiling_face:

The new look is such a commitment to the original ideas of Roon. Since lock-down I have had a three fold increase in my hours of listening to music. The new way that discovering music has been implemented on 1.8 will no doubt increase my listening even more! The new magazine and gallery layout is fresh and dynamic, I’m sure people will fall in love with it as they get to know it better. It really is hard to put down. Just think about it guys…, simply starting a track on Roon is such a journey down a rabbit hole. That’s the whole point, right!

Thanks again and continued success :+1: :+1: :+1:

I enjoyed using the previous version and so far I’m enjoying using this version too.
Is it perfect - not yet !.
As a library user rather than a streaming user my starting point is generally the Albums view and I would prefer to see better use of screen real estate and to be able see a lot more album covers without scrolling. But the design is good and the vertical scrolling is an improvement too.
I do really appreciate the overall presentation and utility of Roon and think the Roon team have done a great job. I hope it continues to improve and evolve.

Want they’ve done sucks! I’ve spent countless hours organizing my music collection (over 1000 Grateful Dead recordings- official releases & bootleg) and performing this update totally screwed everything up. This is the main reason to bought into Roon, I could organize my extensive collection of live recordings/albums, in a way that makes sense to me. I wish I could push a button to reset it back to the old version.

I would join this choir! I think 1.8 is the start of something great. A house cleaning was needed and the shredding of the somewhat dated looks. Under the hood things seem to have gotten smarter too. Not perfect but evolving, next version will be better still. I like that!

I’m now labelled “Roon fanboy”. As well as someone “only seeking to argue” or in need of “getting over myself” for trying to have a less angry and more feedback focused conversation (in the “negative threads” here).

Guess my bad for poking a seemingly angry mob who quote: “expect perfection”, feels “angry” with and feeling “patronized” by 1.8. Who knew software could still spark these feelings? :man_shrugging:

Ahem…

There are numerous threads to provide feedback - including B!tching, Wh!ning, Mo@ning and Grumbling about 1.8. Can’t those of us for whom it works splendidly be blessed with our own little unsullied corner of happiness where we can revel in our enjoyment of the update and express our heartfelt thanks to the creative, hard-working people of Roon who made it all happen?

In other words:

“PLEASE TAKE YOUR NEGATIVITY ELSEWHERE!!!”

On balance this release gets a big thumbs up from me :+1: I particularly like the new focus and the way the recommendations are working correctly with this release. I have to just add my thanks to all the Roon team for a job well done…

Did you ever use the “old” focus?

Also gotta add my respect to the 1.8 update. I bought in to Roon back at the start of the Pandemic, since I ended up being home all the time. 1.7 was solid, and fixed all of the many small issues I had with my funky setup in the house. The interface, for me, was…fine. It presented a lot of information, and most of it was in a place that was usually distracting to me. I rarely spent much time in the library, to be honest.

1.8 has really changed that for me, though. In the last two days, I’ve spent a lot more time ‘wandering’ through the library. I feel like the layout actually allows me to focus on the information being presented. Sure, I have to scroll for different pieces of information, but everything feels logically grouped together. Main Artist info scroll Top tracks and Recommended Albums scroll Related music. Segmented information, but logically located, so I can focus and move to the pieces that I am most interested.

Thanks Roon team!
